Manuela and Franz Feckl are truly exemplary hosts. They have been running their establishment since 1985 and their dedication is plain to see – not least when it comes to the food. The dishes display a sure touch and stand out for their premium ingredients and first-rate technical skill. The cuisine is predominantly classic French but includes some beloved regional specialities. Both a low-carb and a vegetarian version of the set menu are available. The reasonably priced lunch deal is also popular. Wine lovers will appreciate the good selection here, which features one or two rarities. The ele

Everything here is "100% Swabian". All the ingredients come from Württemberg, and the menu is entirely dedicated to regional fare. If you are ordering à la carte, you pick your main dish by its key ingredient (eg beef, game or freshwater fish) and it comes served on a special ash wood tiered platter that was custom-made for the restaurant. The glass partition means there are interesting glimpses into the kitchen, plus the service is very cordial. The vaulted cellar houses a further restaurant, Wild, where a seasonal set menu featuring game is served on Friday evenings. At dinnertime Tue-Thu, t

This restaurant in Stuttgart's Rohr neighbourhood serves an intriguing take on classic French cuisine that draws on Spanish and Swabian influences. This concept wasn't simply plucked out of thin air: the two chefs – José María González Sampedro, who hails from Mallorca, and Caroline Autenrieth from Swabia – met while working in a restaurant in Marseille. The six courses on their surprise menu include deliciously aromatic lamb and braised shallot with a filling of blood sausage ragout with Mediterranean spices. At lunchtime, a three-course menu is offered. In the attractive seating area, old wo

Nestled in the heart of Steinenbronn, this family-run establishment has been welcoming diners for many years. Here, modernity meets tradition in both the decor and the cuisine. The menu features timeless classics such as pork fillet in a creamy sauce, alongside more ambitious dishes, some made with game that they hunt themselves. For a pleasant, laid-back alternative, head to Krönle – the options written up on the board are very reasonably priced. Some house-made food items such as greaves lard spread, tripe, spaetzle, sauces and maultaschen can be purchased to take home. Decent guestrooms.

The Trautwein brothers run this former coaching inn with great dedication. Some 300 years old, it features a charming blend of historical and modern decor. The menu includes Swabian classics such as Gaisburger Marsch (traditional beef stew), Maultaschen and Zwiebelrostbraten (beef and onions in gravy), alongside seasonal dishes such as pink-roasted lamb rump with beans done two ways and polenta with herbs, as well as vegetarian options. A lovely leafy terrace lies to the rear of the building. A rustic vaulted cellar can be booked for private functions. Tip: The shop sells soups, sauces, Maulta
