Housed in Weisser Bär Hotel & Wirtshaus, right on Marktplatz, this trendy yet cosy little establishment is run by an enthusiastic restaurateur duo. Sebastian Leutgeb is a young chef who masterfully blends Austrian and French influences in his creative cuisine. Your friendly hostess and sommelier Miriam Grädler provides impeccable service. A six- to eight-course set menu is served, with dishes along the lines of "char, young turnips, saffron" and "Miéral pigeon in two servings". The name of the restaurant is a tribute to the chef's grandmother, Paula. Tip: In the summer season, on Wednesdays an

It's a shame you can't enjoy Stefan Fischer's high-calibre cuisine all year round. The surprise menu consists of five to eight contemporary and innovative courses, with dishes such as smoked South Burgenland pigeon from southern Burgenland with umeboshi plum, spelt, consommé, shiitake mushroom, elderberry and rowanberry. Wine pairing recommendations come courtesy of the amiable and highly qualified sommelier. This tastefully designed restaurant occupies the first floor of a modern pavilion on the waterfront promenade – as one would expect, spots on the terrace are much in demand. The floor-to-

This idyllic lakeside house has been in existence since 1447. With their wood panelling and tiled stove, its rooms have a cosy atmosphere that draws on the region. The cuisine is Austrian-influenced, but also has an international lilt. There is a choice of à la carte dishes or you can opt for the "Genuss-Menü" (set menu), or indeed pick and choose individual courses from the latter. The veal fillet and braised veal cheek, for example, is really delicious. On Mondays, a surprise menu comprising three or five courses is served. The restaurant is located in Hotel Lexenhof, which offers charming,

An establishment that is a delight in every respect! The fantastic lakeside location by Attersee alone makes a visit worthwhile, as does the pleasingly relaxed atmosphere, which combines rural charm with more modern features, as well as the beautiful terrace. And then there's the cuisine, which has classic Austrian roots. The dishes that grace the menu are tasty and prepared without much ado - "Wiener schnitzel made from saddle of veal" or half a roast chicken; the odd Mediterranean influence also makes its presence felt. Many of the wines on the 500-plus list are from Austria. The Hotel Aichi

Are you a fan of no-frills cuisine that stands out for its craftsmanship and flavour as well as the quality of its regional ingredients? In addition to classic Austrian fare such as Backhendl (breaded fried chicken), Wiener schnitzel etc, you can indulge in dishes such as fried lake trout with Mediterranean pearl barley and a Riesling foam, or roast lamb with Serviettenknödel (bread dumplings). Diners will appreciate the attentive, friendly service and cosy interior done out in a modern style and warm tones. The gorgeous wine cellar dates back to the 16C. This charming country inn is located by the picturesque Krotensee, a stone's throw from the historic Hüttenstein Castle. In its lovely, rustic dining spaces, delicious Alpine-Adriatic cuisine is served: fresh oysters, fish and seafood, game and braised meat, as well as various steaks; whole fish from the Mondsee are served based on the daily catch. Order à la carte or opt for a set menu. The well-curated wine list is international but highlights Austrian producers. They also have well-appointed guestrooms for overnight guests.

The splendid location of this restaurant with a wonderful terrace overlooking Mondsee is as much of a draw as the cuisine of chef-patron Martin Lackner. His dishes have classical leanings and take their cue from the seasons. The quality of the ingredients – many from the region – is exceptional. Order the set menu or à la carte, taking your pick from appetising dishes such as "Hausruck beef tartare, ciabatta-parmesan ice cream, oven-baked tomato". The in-house wine shop is also worth a look. For overnight guests, Seehotel Lackner offers tasteful guestrooms, a beautiful spa and sauna area, plus

The spectacular lakeside location at Wolfgangsee is one of the main draws of this place. Combined with the stunning views of the lake and mountains, the classically elegant decor and live piano music in the background make for a truly romantic atmosphere. Incorporating local produce and drawing on classic and modern influences, the food is equally impressive. Diners have a choice of three set menus: "Poll's Menü", "Rössl Menü" and "Fondue Erlebnis" (must be pre-ordered). The outstanding wine list showcases Austrian labels. Friendly service.
