A beautiful historical house in the small wine-growing village of Blansingen. The couple who run the place have plenty of experience in high-end gastronomy (Maaemo in Oslo, La Vie in Osnabrück), and it's immediately obvious that professionals are at work here. Headed up by the charming Daniela Hasse, the front-of-house team is pleasantly informal, chatty and highly professional. Canadian-born head chef Brian Wawryk never fails to impress with his meticulous craftsmanship and well-balanced dishes. His modern cuisine is creative and focuses on regional products, including ingredients preserved t

Housed in a lovingly restored and converted printing house that dates back centuries, this chic and tastefully designed restaurant is run with dedication by Eveline and Roland Tischhauser. Duc Tan Arrigoni now calls the shots in the kitchen, and you can look forward to sampling the Italian-born chef's take on the restaurant's modern, Mediterranean cuisine concept. The set menu is accompanied by wine pairings from an extensive selection that includes an impressive choice of champagnes. The stylish bar area is perfect for an aperitif or nightcap. There is also a pretty terrace in the courtyard.

If you're not careful, you might end up walking right past the narrow façade of this mid-terrace restaurant. This charming, lively little establishment is right at home here in Basel's St Johanns-Vorstadt district. Both the slick interior and chef-patron Matthieu Judenne's seasonally inspired cuisine are modern, but for all their creativity they remain pleasingly accessible and ingredient-driven. The focus is undisputedly on flavour – soul food rather than frills is the order of the day here. This ethos is evident in dishes such as "poached egg, pea tartare, tarragon foam" and "octopus, Kalama

Villa Feer
International, Seasonal Cuisine

Owner Kathrin Bucher has been running this restaurant in an attractive old villa near Lörrach exhibition centre since 2012. Dine in the cosy, bright interior or, in summer, out on the wonderful terrace. They serve lunch only: until 3pm you can order the set menu or from a small menu compiled from favourite dishes of the last decade. After that, there are desserts and ice creams/sorbets until 5pm.

Au Lion d'Or - Chez Théo
Modern Cuisine · 必比登

This pleasant and elegant restaurant has been run by the same family since 1928 and is now in the hands of the fifth generation! A historical monument frozen in time? Far from it – the chef puts a brilliant contemporary spin on the riches of the terroir. The pretty space is simple, cosy and utterly charming; however, in fine weather, head for the large covered terrace overlooking the flower-decked garden. A welcoming establishment where they take pride in what they do.

Rührberger Hof

The historical Rührberger Hof estate, which is home to this long-established family business, has been around since 1902. The fact that it was once used for farming is no longer apparent today. The pleasingly modern interior is an attractive setting in which to savour the excellent cuisine of brothers Christoph und Felix Düster. This is based on classical foundations and takes its cue from the region and the seasons. At lunchtime, the reasonably priced set menu of the day is very popular. There are also well-kept contemporary-style guestrooms.

Set up in what was formerly the gardener's house on a historical country estate, this is the trendy restaurant-bar concept of the Düster and Schneider restaurateur and winemaking families. Christoph Düster's cuisine is made up of what could be described as "modernised classics". The premium quality of the ingredients is evident in dishes such as "pizokel (buckwheat dumplings), Périgord truffle, spinach, hazelnut" or "guinea fowl, sherry, parsley root, Andengold potato". The atmosphere is pleasingly laid-back and casual, not least thanks to the easy-going, attentive and ever-present service und

Krone

Krone has been properly invested in: from the façade to the hotel rooms, everything is chic and high quality, the restaurant is modern and sleek. The food is very good, with select produce turned into aromatic dishes with plenty of flavour. At lunchtime, a smaller range of interesting options. If you are staying longer, Basel and Alsace are very close by.
