It isn't only concerts that attract visitors to the Neue Gewandhaus – Stadtpfeiffer is also in demand for its cuisine. Detlef and Petra Schlegel have been enriching Leipzig's gastronomic scene with passion and commitment since 2001. They keep up with the times, showcasing their contemporary take on classic French cuisine in two set menus (one of which is vegetarian). The "Hirsch, Senf, Traube" (venison, mustard, grape), for instance, is pleasingly readable, unfussy, and has its own distinctive style. The quality of the produce is second to none; often regional and seasonal, it includes some in

Pleasant, refreshing, unpretentious – this is a place where it's undeniably good fun to eat. In addition to the pleasingly laid-back bistro atmosphere and chic design, it is the food cooked up by this pair of restaurateurs that steals the show. Lisa Angermann and Andreas Reinke organise their modern, ingredient-led cuisine into a regularly changing set menu dubbed "Frieda En Vogue" – the vegetarian version, "Frieda Naturell", should be pre-ordered when making your booking. The quality of the ingredients, the craftsmanship and the seasoning are particularly impressive in dishes such as "cod, ox

A really pleasant little place with a trendy, rustic bistro-style interior and a laid-back, informal atmosphere. In addition to the striking lamps and various other decorative touches, the open kitchen is particularly eye-catching. Here, they create carefully thought-out, elaborately prepared dishes abounding with appealing details, which are presented in the form of a five- or six-course set menu. First-rate produce, eg venison from the region, is successfully combined with artichokes and blueberries; Atlantic monkfish is served with tomatoes and lovage. The wine pairings are also interesting

Casual fine dining near the church (Nikolaikirche) and opera house (Leipzig Oper). The high ceilings, exposed ventilation shafts, urban design and open kitchen create an on-trend industrial-style interior in which to savour cuisine with Asian influences. The dishes can be combined to compose a set menu or chosen à la carte. Friendly service and good wine recommendations. Thu-Sat, lunch takes the form of a dish of the day or a three-course set menu.

This restaurant is dedicated to the French way of life. As you sit comfortably at your table in the stylish modern interior, looking out through the floor-to-ceiling windows, the dedicated team busy themselves in the open kitchen, cooking up modern interpretations of dishes such as sea bass with root vegetables and potato croissant or Bresse chicken with morels, shimeji mushrooms and vin jaune. The creations are organised into two set menus – one vegetarian, one with meat – and accompanied by exclusively French wine, which are charmingly and skilfully presented at your table with the aid of a

Tasty and fresh food is served in this refined restaurant in a restored building from the Wilhelminian period, which also houses the comfortable hotel of the same name. The menu is seasonal – there are various set menus (one of which is vegetarian) and a sophisticated à la carte selection. Friendly and attentive service. In summer, the terrace behind the house is very appealing.

A place everyone would love to have in their neighbourhood. It is Andreas Reinke and Lisa Angermannin's second restaurant, after Frieda, which they also run in the city's Gohlis district. Within the walls of a beautifully maintained historical building, the setting is sleek and modern, with warm red tones enhancing the pleasant atmosphere. The menu features a tempting selection of delicious seasonal dishes, and the set menu on offer is also available in a vegetarian version. Pick a wine from the well-curated list. The restaurant is conveniently located about a 15min tram ride from the centre.

This extremely popular place boasts fresh and flavoursome cuisine in the form of a short menu that changes with the seasons. Tables without tablecloths, wooden floorboards and partly exposed brick walls, as well as appealing wine-themed decorative details make for a cosy bistro feel with a rustic touch. The service is laid-back, friendly and attentive. The chef also gets in on the action front of house, providing charming service and excellent wine recommendations. There's also a great beer garden!
