Gusswerk – once a bell foundry – is an impressive location for a restaurant. Details of the old industrial architecture have been skilfully combined with chic, stylish modern furnishings. The centrepiece is the open kitchen, allowing you to watch the team led by Andreas Senn and head chef Christian Geisler at work. The cuisine is presented in the form of "The 5 Senses of Taste", a set menu that abounds with creativity and well-thought-out details, finely balanced textures and bold flavours, from the five savoury appetisers to dishes such as "Chilean sea bass, ajoblanco, tomato, Amalfi lemon",

Just outside Salzburg, Iris and Jürgen Vigné's establishment offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. In a lovely 17C parish house, dine in one of the charming, cosy rooms, outside on the attractive terrace or in a lounge. The cuisine is characterised by a bold and inventive spirit, infused with a personal touch that shines through in dishes like the foie gras terrine with cauliflower and passion fruit; a symphony of textures and flavours that showcases the chef's mastery of contrasting elements. When it comes to the quality of his ingredients, Jürgen Vigné sets great store by

As far as Salzburg's foodies are concerned, the Kaiblinger family's elegant restaurant with its vibrant, colourful decor is as important a landmark as the Mönchsberg. Made using excellent produce, Andreas Kaiblinger's culinary creations are classical in their foundations and full of flavour. He sparingly incorporates Asian and Mediterranean seasonings and gives his dishes a certain individuality. He and his team work meticulously to create punchy cuisine. Your charming maître d', Andrea Kaiblinger, has some fascinating wine recommendations up her sleeve. Delightful rear courtyard terrace!

Housed in a distinctive glass vault with an elegant interior and a magnificent view of the city, Schloss Mönchstein's fine dining restaurant is an impressive space. Simon Wagner, who previously worked at Schloss Schauenstein in Fürstenau and IGNIV by Andreas Caminada in Bad Ragaz, is in charge of the kitchen here. With great skill, he reinterprets Austrian culinary tradition with a creative twist. Diners have a choice of two set menus (one vegetarian) comprising four or six courses, plus optional wine pairings. Alternatively, there is an à la carte selection, and "grosses pièces" such as whole

Run with great dedication, this friendly, family-owned restaurant is located at a slight remove from the city centre, close to the train station, but it's well worth making the detour for the excellent food. The cuisine is regional, seasonal and pleasingly down-to-earth. Their appealing range of dishes includes venison ragout with bread dumplings and chanterelles, as well as delicious desserts such as Topfenknödel (curd dumplings). Order à la carte or opt for the set menu, which comprises three to five courses – a vegetarian version is also available. Dine in the inviting interior or out on th

This restaurant overlooking Salzburg boasts a wonderful location and stunning views. The atmosphere in the pretty wood-panelled dining area is cosy. The cuisine is rooted in the region but also draws on international influences, with a house speciality of Zitronen-Rahm-Herz vom Milchkalb (milk-fed calf's heart in a creamy lemon sauce) featured alongside dishes such as venison yellow curry served with spiced rice. There are set menus, one of which is vegetarian, an à la carte menu and an additional afternoon snack menu – there really is something for everyone. This lovely spot, which is also a

A real Salzburg institution! The atmosphere in the various dining areas is perfect for a cosy dinner, but in the summer, you might prefer to sit out on the gorgeous terrace. Traditional Austrian fare dominates the menu – be sure to try the wonderful creamy veal goulash with dumplings! For those who prefer something a little more upscale, there are options such as sole and beef fillet. The service comes courtesy of an attentive and well-drilled front-of-house team. Comfortably furnished guestrooms are available for overnight stays. Good to know: You can buy house-made jams to take home. Practic

The dishes served here present a new take on old Salzburg recipes from a cookbook published in 1719! Located in the heart of the old town, the restaurant is incredibly cosy, thanks to its rustic light wood finishings and lovely vaulted ceiling. The friendly service adds to the charming atmosphere. The menu of Austrian classics naturally includes Backhendl (breaded fried chicken), Wiener schnitzel and Topfenschmarrn (shredded curd pancake). Tip: Book well in advance! The 700-year-old building also houses a chic little boutique hotel – you might be tempted to stay a little longer!
