乡村酒店 Litfässchen

The three lovingly restored historical houses in the middle of the charming old town are really something to behold. Here, the tasteful Hotel Sonne has various dining options, including this restaurant. The fine dining restaurant in the basement of the centuries-old Stadtweinhaus is chic, modern and pleasingly laid-back. (If you are not coming from the hotel, you get to the restaurant via Untermarkt.) In the open kitchen, Erik Arnecke oversees the preparation of a five-course set menu. Dishes such as Ederbergland venison saddle with butternut squash cannelloni, tamarind, pickled beech mushroom

First things first: be sure to make a reservation, because this place is in high demand! This isn't surprising given the fantastic eight-course set menu that the kitchen team around Christian Steska and Jansen Schouten proposes in this smart townhouse situated in the beautiful old town. For those who prefer a lighter option, an attractively priced four-course set menu is available on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The restaurant comprises both Christian & Friends and the adjoining wine bar Bordeaux & Friends with its distinctive wine rack – it has an excellent selection of wines with many top label

The high ceilings, steel girders, large mullioned windows and sections of exposed brick wall show a conscious effort to retain some of the industrial charm of this old factory building: these features have been merged into the chic, modern design. The tasty cuisine has international and seasonal roots; smaller menu at lunchtime. Friendly service, and the adjoining boutique hotel has trendy guestrooms and rooftop sauna area.

Located in the centre of town, right by the Lauter River, this popular restaurant has a casual brasserie feel and serves flavoursome regional and seasonal cuisine that draws on Mediterranean influences. The daily special, "Schuberts Schneller Teller" ("Schubert's Quick Plate"), is a hit at lunchtime. Entennest is a cosy and charming wine tavern that makes for a more rustic alternative – the menu is the same here in the evening. If you would like to stay overnight, the hotel of the same name has attractive individually furnished guestrooms.

This country inn with its bright, tastefully decorated interior and beautiful, partly covered terrace specialises in serving culinary classics that evolve with the seasons. There are two set menus (one of which is vegetarian) comprising four to seven courses. The quality of the ingredients, which are mostly locally sourced, is beyond question. Great value for money. The service is very friendly and charming.

A listed building standing directly on the market square, the 17C Liefrink House has an appealing exterior. Behind the pretty half-timbered façade is a charming, modern restaurant (formerly “essWebers - Küche am Markt” but now with a new name) which serves seasonal, international cuisine. The chef's set menu is complemented by a number of à-la-carte options.

The regional and seasonal cuisine served here wins diners over with the flavours it exudes and its technical prowess. Examples include fillet of regional salmon trout, pak choi, saffron sauce, and braised ragout of local venison, creamed kohlrabi, fried mushrooms. In "Sonne Sharing Style" (for four or more people), the chefs put together a selection of dishes for diners to share. The pretty, cosy dining area affords views of the old town's historical half-timbered façades; having your meal out on the terrace that overlooks Marktplatz is a pleasant option. They are also open for lunch. Tip: It
