Casa Maria, a beautifully restored 18th-century Galician country house, is located 10 km from the Muros and Noya estuary. It offers free Wi-Fi, a hot tub, and a lounge with a fireplace. The bright rooms retain original features such as stone walls and wooden beams, complemented by restored parquet floors and modern amenities. Each individually styled room includes a private balcony, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, and a private bathroom with a hairdryer. Casa Maria's chalets also feature a hot tub and a modern kitchen. The property serves homemade Galician cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients. Guests can enjoy free bike rentals, and the staff is happy to provide information about A Coruña.

A restaurant that will be a pleasant surprise for guests, both in terms of its passion for hospitality, its use of the very best ingredients, and its small town location. Ably supported by his family, Manuel García strives for culinary excellence through his impressive tasting menu (a tribute to the history of the business which was founded by his grandparents in 1939). This “gastro-sensory” experience, which provides an insight into traditional Galician flavours and ingredients (sea bass, spider crab, locally reared chicken etc) from a creative perspective, evolves in stages in the Champagne

O Secadeiro

Farm to table

Once in a while you come across a truly pleasant surprise in a rural setting run by chefs who have returned to their roots with the sole aim of showcasing what they have learnt elsewhere. This is definitely the case with couple Fernando and Eva, two cooks (although she is also in charge of the dining room service) who have restored her grandmother’s house and created their own vegetable garden (which also includes a greenhouse). Their contemporary cuisine has plenty of personality and is centred around a single seasonal vegetarian menu. We loved the roasted aubergines with miso!

Casa Barqueiro

A family-owned restaurant that is particularly popular in the region. It features a busy wine bar, with a few tables for tapas, an impeccably laid out dining room adorned with a beautiful mural of the bucolic Maceira bridge (just a few kilometres away and a must for a visit), as well as a spectacular glass-fronted wine cellar. In the kitchen, the focus is on honest and traditional Galician cuisine which stands out for its use of local ingredients and the quality of its meats. Whatever you do, don’t miss the magnificent stone-cooked T-bone steak or the homemade desserts, including the creamy ch

Rios O Freixo

Seafood, Galician

A family-run restaurant with a superb location overlooking the port, where the quality of ingredients is always to the fore, especially in terms of its shellfish (oysters of different sizes, clams, cockles etc) and superb fresh fish, meat and rice dishes (the rice with sea urchins and Cambados scallops is a delight). For the best views, make sure you book a table by the picture windows.

A de Totó

Grills

€€

On the outskirts of Trasmonte, along a road leading to Negreira and the delightful Ponte Maceira (which has been officially designated as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain), this restaurant delights guests thanks to its honest simplicity both in terms of its decor (the walls are adorned with large photos of Galician landscapes) and cuisine. Although there’s a good choice of starters and several fish options, the main speciality is grilled meat, hence the cabinets full of different cuts (Galician sirloin, Angus ribs from Ireland, aged T-bone etc).

Nordestada

A unique dining option, occupying the former fish auction house in Portosín. Here, full homage is paid to the building’s history, with fish (grilled dishes are the only option) taking centre stage, although seafood and some meats are also available. The restaurant takes its name from the northeasterly wind (“nordés”) that is a frequent occurrence in the fishing waters of the Rías Baixas.

Landua

Contemporary

€€

Occupying an old stone house in the heart of the countryside and equipped with its own greenhouse-vegetable garden, Landua is run with great enthusiasm by a young couple. In the beautiful dining room, which has been converted from what was once the stable, you will be offered a unique surprise menu with simple yet well-balanced and elegant dishes. Although they use ingredients from the nearby coast and meadows, the vegetables take centre stage. The access road is very attractive, as it partly runs alongside the Santa Uxia reservoir!
