The historic Het Predikheren served as a convent and military hospital from the 17C. Today it has morphed into a venue devoted to culture and fine dining. The left wing is home to this vibrant, modern eatery starring Jenny Callens in the unstarched, buzzy dining room, while veteran chef Ken Verschueren joyfully dusts the cobwebs off culinary tradition. Ideal to dig into Franco-Belgian grub, free of fussy, futile frills and at prices that make sense. It would be a crime to miss the lunchtime menu that changes daily. The chef demonstrates his love of fine produce, crafting dishes that bear witne

Their contemporary establishment is a model of classy elegance, sporting soft colours and fashionable furnishings. Centpourcent is a blue-chip value, as is quickly apparent from the crowd of regulars. It is just the ticket for any occasion from a high-powered business lunch to a romantic dinner. Chef Colonna-Cesari’s consummate know-how and measured creativity can be tasted in light, exuberant cuisine, overflowing in fresh, delicately crafted flavours. Subtle nuances unde

Thierry Theys’ cuisine is the pinnacle of “nuanced”. Despite his youth, he has already made a name for himself on the Belgian fine dining scene and owes his reputation to highly individual recipes. Right from the first bite, he unveils his high-flying precision and technical craftsmanship. Not afraid of challenges, each dish is rich in emotion. For example, he may prepare North Sea crab with finger lime, avocado and a subtle sweet-sour flavoured stem lettuce. He may enhance suckling veal, simply grilled, with a barigoule sauce and a gravy jazzed up by kimchi. This chef knows how to nurture and

Vintage rolls out surprise after surprise, starting with the isolated location of the tastefully restored farmstead tucked away in the countryside around Kontich. Huge picture windows and a splendid terrace ensure you make the most of the stunning scenery, while period beams and elegant works of art set the scene indoors. Steven Wullaert’s high-flying food-wine pairings will fascinate even the most discerning wine buffs.Next chef Cyril Moulin makes his entrance with a score depicted by a bold fresh approach and razor-sharp precision, without forgetting a classical background of epic stature, c

Nils Proost brings his vision of sustainable fine dining to life in this refurbished canteen of a former teacher training college. He sources regional veggies and fruit, North Sea fish and occasionally meat (whole carcasses) in a tribute to the region’s forests, land and sea. Zero waste inspires his creativity (a superb kombucha, for example), adding an intriguing dimension to his repertory. Vibrant fermentations, powerful flavours, surprising seasonings and understated fruity sweets: the tastebuds are constantly thrilled and enthralled at Neon. Graffiti on the walls and a homemade tropical tree hung with brightly coloured leaves set the scene in this fun, offbeat eatery. Thibault Van Stratum cooks instinctively and frequently finds his inspiration in Asia. Highly creative fusion cuisine brimming in influences, illustrated by croaker and marinated mussels jazzed up by smoked oil-perfumed dashi.

Ancient murals and untreated or designer materials paint the picture in this authentic 16C edifice, idyllically located at the foot of Saint Rumbold’s Tower. A glamorous vibe provides the perfect foil for the creative, international set menu. You can expect unusual dishes such as a barbecued slice of watermelon with crumbly feta, pieces of herring, pistachios and crunchy rice noodles. An apparently classical façade hides a treasure trove of surprises. While you’re there, take the time to explore The (wine) Cellar boutique and The Chapel, ideal for events and special occasions.

Zino Jacobs and Arthur Doppée enjoy grilling and smoking ingredients over a live fire, as the smoky, wood-burning aromas reveal as you enter the trendily appointed Ember. This flame-licked focus is central, but veggies from their own kitchen garden also play a major role. Both chefs are committed to a zero-waste ethos as their set menu illustrates. The food is unconventional, deftly crafted and underpinned by fresh, acidic notes. They might grill hispi cabbage and celeriac to accentuate the depth of Brasvar pork, which is flanked by a gravy enhanced with crushed hazelnuts, grilled almonds and
