Surrounded by nothing but fields and livestock, this dog-friendly pub sports shabby-chic décor, blazing fires and a relaxed, cosy feel. The unfussy, classically based dishes are all the better for their simplicity; if the chefs have got a fresh, sweet fillet of megrim sole, for example, then they wisely don't get in the way of its natural flavours. The wine list is concise yet contains a good selection by the glass and spotlights interesting, lesser-known choices. Compact, antique-furnished bedrooms are available.

As its location would suggest, the menu is centred around fresh fish and shellfish, much of which is landed at the adjacent harbour. The appealing menu uses lots of tried-and-tested combinations and includes dishes like hake with tartare crushed ‘Cornish earlies’ potatoes.
