This strikingly designed restaurant sits near the beautiful Royal Djurgården. Its stage is the open kitchen, with the chefs often adding their finishing touches tableside. Beautifully composed dishes use top quality Nordic ingredients and deliver well-judged flavours and textures, featuring the likes of halibut with fermented melon, sesame and jalapeno. Service is top-notch and it’s worth opting for either a wine pairing or the creative non-alcoholic option featuring ingredients from their garden. Be sure arrive early for a drink on the waterside terrace too.

The net-curtained windows give little away, but once inside you’ll find an elegant room that’s a perfect match for this chic neighbourhood. The chefs work with calm efficiency in the open kitchen and service is attentive and perfectly paced. The detailed cooking has a classic French base but combines modern techniques and international flavours to create stunningly flavoured dishes such as ‘scallop, white truffle, white chocolate, carnaroli risotto’ or ‘roe deer, blood, black garlic, Tellicherry pepper’. Acidity also plays a key role, being employed in harmonious ways to really lighten the dis

Offering one of the city’s most unique dining experiences, Niklas Ekstedt eschews electricity and does all of his cooking over fire. Your visit opens with a tour of the kitchen, where the culinary philosophy is explained and you are presented with their signature oyster snack which is cooked in a cone over flames. Various smoking techniques continue to be applied to other top Scandinavian produce, with different flavours introduced to the grill to add an extra dimension, as with the juniper-smoked reindeer saddle with beetroot sauce and marrow. Everything is enhanced by the affable service tea

The residents of Östermalm can count themselves lucky to call this charming restaurant run by a husband-and-wide duo their local – but whether you’re a regular or not, you’ll instantly feel the warmth of the team’s hospitality. The fully open-plan layout adds a unique touch, as it blurs the line between dining room and kitchen, where Lotta prepares unfussy, flavour-packed dishes such as blue mussels with onion, jalapeno and bergamot or ling with browned butter, hazelnuts and Brussels sprouts. Great value is to be found on the ‘Kvällens Fyra Favoriter’ menu, a four-course ‘Favourites of the Nig

Ulla Winbladh was originally built as a steam bakery for the 1897 Stockholm World Fair and is set in charming parkland beside the Skansen open-air museum. Sit on the terrace or in the older, more characterful part of the building. Typical Swedish dishes include the likes of fish roe and sweet and sour herring.

Named after the 1966 Ingmar Bergman film, this stylish restaurant creates a striking contrast between its old townhouse exterior and its elegant interior design. Before dinner you are invited down to the cellar to pick your wine; the chefs then adjust the à la carte depending on your choice. Alternatively, you can opt for the fixed tasting menu to enjoy the full breadth of the cooking. Expect bold flavours and quality ingredients, supported by relaxed service and an immersive feel.

The name is a diminutive version of ‘petrichor’ – which refers to the lovely scent that accompanies rain after a warm period – and there’s a similarly pleasant cosiness to the restaurant itself, thanks to its charming, intimate atmosphere. The set menu follows the seasons, with produce that’s only available in smaller batches offered as optional extra courses, such as pork from Rosa Skattlådan with fermented berries and rose petals. Dishes are well thought out in their creativity, showcasing a good understanding of balance and flavour, while wine and homemade non-alcoholic pairings complete th

Brasserie Astoria

The former Astoria Cinema, which dates from the 1870s, has been carefully restored and now boasts a bustling brasserie with all the glamour and opulence of yesteryear. Sit at the counter to watch the chefs at work; quality produce is used to create flavoursome modern brasserie classics with the odd Asian influence.
