Maçakızı

Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

Maçakızı does not give away its secrets easily. The drive that snakes along the narrow roads raises your expectations with each turn, until you arrive at this luxury hotel (the rooms are gorgeous!) nestled on a hillside of stunning natural beauty. The mesmerising views of the bay and the elegant decor will captivate you the moment you enter. This is a truly special place, make no mistake. The new take on Aegean cuisine that chef Aret Sahakyan and his team bring to the table only reinforces that feeling. The classic roots of their dishes are evident in the hearty sauces, such as fish fumet with

Huge floor-to-ceiling windows lend this lofty industrial-style, design-forward restaurant an open feel. The two VIP tables tucked into the corners of the upper level and the marble counter seats are the ones to go for. As you make your way to your table, you pass the lounge bar and the tandoori oven; just beyond is the stage where concerts are occasionally performed. The grounds also include a vegetable garden and space for a few animals – the chef even runs his own farm.Local ingredients form the core of the modern take on Turkish cuisine served here. Kitchen By Osman Sezener

Modern Cuisine, Country cooking · ★ Michelin

Osman Sezener and his team propose an original and cosmopolitan take on Turkish cuisine. Produce from the region takes centre stage and it is always guaranteed to be fresh and flavourful. The dishes are not overly complicated, but they certainly pack a punch. The chef skilfully draws out the intensity of his ingredients with a distinctively subtle touch. He grills prawns from local waters, for instance, only briefly, to ensure they reach your plate succulent. They are topped with a prawn mayonnaise and finished with a lemon coulis that adds a gentle sweetness. A streak of herb oil and allspice

In this tranquil fishing village, you stroll along a street lined with all kinds of restaurants, yet this stone house, with its rather rustic decor and lovely waterside terrace, immediately catches your eye. A glance at the display counter, brimming with a vibrant array of mezze, is enough to draw in any foodie. Sea bass in olive oil, accented with just the right amount of vinegar and peppercorns, that melts in your mouth, is served alongside grilled aubergine and peppers with a delicate balance of sweet and heat: utterly blissful. You can also choose from a variety of fish, prepared simply bu

The area around Lake Bafa is popular on account of its ruins and unusual hiking trails. Be sure to include in your itinerary this little guesthouse, somewhat tucked away in the greenery (just be warned that the paths that lead here can get surprisingly narrow). The splendour of the setting is complemented by the hostess in her generous culinary offerings. Vegetables from her own farm, fish from the lake, beef from neighbouring farmers: she works with top-quality produce. She serves down-to-earth dishes such as barbecued sea bass with onion, tomato, pepper and wintercress. Fried aubergine reall

The barbecue and wood-fired oven will catch your eye as soon as you enter this congenial establishment, which has a cosy terrace in the lane to the rear. The chef expertly tames the open fire to cook delicious dishes, such as kebab and grilled dry-aged steak. The mixed grill is a signature dish here: a variety of juicy meats, oven-fresh bread and a judicious sprinkle of sumac. This restaurant offers great value for the money, serving delicious food without pretensions.

With its red-and-white check tablecloths, photographs and paintings from Italy, vintage decor and a terrace overlooking the pebble beach, this trattoria is the embodiment of Mediterranean charm. The menu features an extensive range of tempting traditional dishes. The Neapolitan-style pizzas and creamy risotto with super-fresh seafood are especially popular. There are also 12 different dishes with house-made pasta to choose from. This generosity is just one example of why Arka has been a Bodrum favourite for so long – and rightfully so!

Take a seat on the terrace of this open-air restaurant, among the mandarin and lemon trees, and prepare yourself for some Anatolian generosity. The mezze- and kebab-style dishes are perfect for sharing with friends or for a romantic dinner for two. Tempting options on the menu include roasted aubergine stuffed with meat seasoned with paprika and a yoghurt dressing, and flatbread with a lamb brochette, lamb pastrami, Golot cheese and an onion salad with sumac and fresh herbs. Discover a world of rich flavours that won't break the bank!
