Blue Hill at Stone Barns
American, Contemporary · ★★ Michelin
$$$$
The passion of Chef Dan Barber is at the core of everything here, where a meal is a true experience that uniquely knits together his vision of improving our foodways, the grit of utilizing the land to provide sustenance, and luxurious touches like crisped linens and fine crystal.A procession of dramatically presented, farm-fresh seasonal produce kicks off the meal and may include freshly plucked radishes with browned butter, Hakurei turnips dressed with poppy seeds, and morsels of dried honeypatch squash. While the focus is plant-based, heartier compositions may reveal roasted, retired dairy c

Chutney Masala

This longstanding restaurant in idyllic Irvington is a rather special place. Tucked along Main Street and framed by windows, it is bright and welcoming, thanks to mustard-yellow walls and art, and hand-blown glass light fixtures. A small, inlaid-tile bar out front welcomes one and all to dine on a wonderful, flavor-rich carte from Chef/co-owner Navjot Arora. Local, organic produce star in such complex, boldly spiced dishes as bhindi masala (imbued with tangy amchoor). Chana masala reaches delicious heights when paired with a sweet and nutty Peshawari naan, and pulu rasam, a lentil-based tomato

The Cookery

It’s a cute neighborhood spot yet this restaurant far exceeds what might be expected with cooking that goes completely outside of the box. It’s why every seat is almost always filled with young couples, families, and regulars. Artisanal products are given the royal treatment here; the duck liver cannoli is shatteringly crisp and filled with rich duck liver mousse. All of the appetizers are excellent, and rotating daily specials are always worth a second look. House-made radiatore is tossed with an unctuous lamb Bolognese, but do not sleep on the market vegetables, where even a simple grilled g

La Bastide by Andrea Calstier
French · ★ Michelin

Head to this modern farmhouse in Westchester where a soothing design perfectly complements sweeping views of the surrounding pastoral landscape. Chef Andrea Calstier and General Manager Elena Oliver bring warmth and polish to an intimate dining room with only a handful of tables, all centered around a tasting menu deeply inspired by the south of France and the chef’s upbringing in Marseille. The cooking blends contemporary technique with Provençal soul, whether in a delicate socca topped with chickpeas and preserved lemon, or a refined interpretation of bouillabaisse rich with saffron and seaf

Westchester is clearly upping its culinary game and attracting real talent. Case in point: this gleaming gem of a spot, headed by Paul DiBari. A citywide mover and shaker, he is spearheading this contemporary, focused kitchen and stellar beverage selection.Find a seat at the marble bar and watch the magic unfold. Soft jazz fills the air, as highly civilized servers deliver your fare. Hand-cut maltagliati with ricotta, tomatoes and basil; brasato di spalla di manzo braised in red wine with mascarpone polenta; or rillettes de cochon with pork confit are just some of the feats. Apropos Restaurant at The Abbey Inn
American, Contemporary
$$$$
The Sisters of Saint Mary's certainly didn't eat like this, but if you take a one-hour train ride from Grand Central to Peekskill's Apropros Restaurant at The Abbey Inn, you will. This 120-year-old abbey perched high above the Hudson River has been painstakingly restored and transformed into a lovely inn and restaurant. The grounds, and the views, are worth the trip alone but the wine cellar boasting an impressive collection and the farm-to-table kitchen are equally rewarding. The menu leans traditional, with dishes ranging from rich lamb ragù atop tangles of thick pappardelle to grilled petit

Burrata

Burrata is busy at all times for a myriad of reasons, not the least of which is the Chef/owner Chas Anderson's ability to create gorgeous, flavorful food. Even the open-floor design, with windows aplenty and oyster-tinted walls, is fresh and inviting. Thanks to the use of top-shelf ingredients and a wood-burning oven, this is a menu with not-to-miss pizze, along with starters and mains that deliciously blend New York and Italian sensibilities with a modern take on the beloved "red sauce" joint. Veal polpettine with robiolina cheese and tomato sauce is comfort in a bowl, as is the rigatoni enric

Southern Table

Polished concrete floors, steel chairs and whitewashed brick walls emblazoned with animal silhouettes set a modern country look, and the open kitchen’s cacophony is part of the fun. Southern Table is the sort of place that's just right for serving a crowd, so come one and come all to enjoy a menu littered with tasty renditions of Southern classics. Fried green tomatoes, Mama's Cornbread, and shrimp jambalaya are all good bets. Top the meal off with the crispy buttermilk chicken sandwich loaded with toppings like bacon and melting cheese and served with seasoned fries. Bourbon-glazed donuts or
