The story of the Donei family is intertwined with that of this ancient Alpine dairy, transformed into a restaurant in the 1950s, when the parents of current chef-owner Paolo delighted early vacationers with wholesome dishes, helping establish it as one of Val di Fassa’s most celebrated tables. Regional dishes including home-made pastries and desserts, as well as meat and salumi from the family’s own farm, are to the fore in this typical restaurant with beautiful wooden furnishings created by a local artist. Part of the Post Hotel situated in the centre of the village (in the traffic-limited zone), the restaurant is open non-stop from 11am-10pm and doesn’t take bookings.

Located above the village, this guesthouse is part of a real working farm with cows, horses and pigs, producing meat, charcuterie and cheese, not to mention seasonal vegetables from the kitchen garden. It goes without saying that the menu offers hearty mountain cuisine: the cheese dumplings with “crudo di Moena” cheese and spinach are excellent, as are the slow-cooked stews and braised dishes made with the farm’s own meat. In a former Alpine dairy on the slopes overlooking Moena, romance continues in the wood-clad dining room complete with fireplace, complemented by a small panoramic veranda. Yet the cuisine here is no mere afterthought: hearty, predominantly mountain fare, almost exclusively meat, is of excellent quality. With limited seating, reservations are recommended.
