There may be plenty of other eateries on this street but, whether you’re meeting friends or doing business, it’s well worth seeking out this colourful restaurant. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere, is always busy, and boasts an eclectic look that includes a large octopus hanging from the ceiling! It’s also run by an experienced team who know what they’re doing. The snails on toast is a popular choice, followed by the lamb shank or octopus with risotto. Look out too for the dishes cooked on the hibachi grill, like sea bass or flank steak.

The Meschino family opened a pizzeria on the food-centric Vilnius Gatvė in 1996 and, over the years, it has evolved into this smart, formal spot. Two small dining rooms are elegantly decked out with mirrors, chandeliers and linen-clad tables; in summer though, head for the flower-decked terrace. The chef may be Lithuanian, but you’d never know, as he follows the Italian principles of good ingredients, simple preparation and maximum flavour. The homemade pastas are a highlight – such as red maltagliati with lamb ragout, boletus and cream sauce – and interesting Italian wines accompany.

It might be called a grill – and it's certainly all about cooking over fire – but don't assume it's just steaks in the spotlight at this faux-industrial-looking spot on the edge of the Old Town. Instead, a wide range of meats share the focus, as emphasised by the variety of carcasses hanging in the chiller cabinet as you enter. The menu encourages sharing to start, with the likes of salmon ceviche or chipotle sausages, before moving on to the main event – maybe sirloin, lamp rump or duck breast. Care and pride are put into the vibrant, colourful dishes, which come with bold, gutsy flavours.

Martyn Meid is the experienced chef-owner behind this crisply decorated restaurant, which opened at the end of 2025. His creative cooking adds Japanese techniques and flavours to a classical French base to create dishes that are elegant in looks and often innovative in flavour combinations; the chicken liver pâté on Hokkaido milk bread is a speciality that updates an old family recipe. The monochrome design of the room is cleverly juxtaposed with vividly hued jars of pickled produce that frame the open kitchen, where Martyn takes centre stage.

The name Protėviai translates as ‘ancestor’ and their tagline is “The legend of fire and steaks, inspired by the ancestors of the world”. As you may have guessed, this restaurant is all about the primeval method of cooking steaks over fire and smoke. The striking interior takes in huge wooden sculptures and a fire-effect central counter hewn out of a huge piece of wood. The steaks – some dry-aged for 60 days – are a mix of Lithuanian, USDA Prime rib-eye, Koji tenderloin and Wagyu from Japan and Australia, and are served by weight, cooked over glowing embers and rested with care.

Set in a hotel beside the Cathedral Square, you can expect an idyllic ambience here, complete with twinkling water fountains. When the weather’s good, the terrace is the place to be, as it faces both the Square and the Cathedral, but the restaurant itself is also a beautiful place with a chic, modern feel. The ambitious kitchen produces attractively presented, cosmopolitan dishes such as hamachi ceviche with strawberries, hibiscus, avocado and shiso, followed by the likes of pistachio cheesecake with raspberry sorbet and pistachio ice cream.

Hidden away behind a beaded curtain within the Sushi Masters restaurant is Vaidas Užgerys’ omakase experience, an exclusive 12-seater counter where a menu comprising around 14 courses lasts for three hours. The day's ingredients are presented at the beginning of the meal, before it opens with assorted snacks like salmon jalapeño or fried scallop. Vaidas’ isn't afraid of adding his own touches or being tied by tradition: his ingredients are largely from Spain and his rice from Niigata comes with red wine instead of vinegar. Highlights include the cuttlefish and the beef tenderloin.

Sister to Nüman in Kaunas, the name of this restaurant means ‘river’ in Norwegian, with the language being a clue both to the design of the room and the style of the food here. The traditional creamwashed façade of the heritage building is certainly in complete contrast to the sleek interior, which is an elegant space with a design-led style. The menu delivers a good range of creative, pared-back dishes with bold flavours, a blend of textures and eye-catching presentation, with sharing dishes for two also a feature. In summer, head for the rear terrace.

Having been five years in the making, this impressively opulent restaurant seems like it might be more at home in Dubai or Macau than Vilnius! The cavernous glass-roofed main dining room is overlooked by two ‘caged’ balconies and a champagne bar – and there’s an intimate, dimly lit cocktail bar serving innovative Asian creations. As its name suggests, this modern bistro deluxe brings a little bit of France to Vilnius. The large rear terrace is the place to be in warmer weather, but the interior is just as appealing with its sleek, clean-lined style, large vases, oversized wooden figurines and monochrome prints. The menu draws its influences from the north to the south, and the roll-call of Gallic classics is sure to make any Francophile happy. Reykjavik-born chef Arnór Ingi Bjarkason left the pastoral splendour of Red Brick in 2025 to open his own restaurant in the city, coincidentally a few doors down from the Consulate of Iceland. He took over what was formerly a pizza parlour and the pizza oven still sits centre-stage, used by the very personable Arnór for several of his dishes. There is an à la carte but, for the full experience, go for the seven or 13 course tasting menu. The name Skóg was chosen as it's Icelandic for ‘forest’ and nature provides much of the culinary influence, with the ingredients also being largely organic.
€€€Steakhouse
Start with a drink in the adjacent bar, then move on to this elegant space where comfy leather chairs, black tables and black walls create a cool, contemporary vibe; for larger groups ask for one of the appealingly intimate round booths. Meat is the cornerstone of the menu, with the steaks primarily sourced from the USA, but you can also expect the likes of lamb chops, duck breast and veal. Equal care goes into side dishes such as the roasted baby potatoes with beetroot cream or the grilled vegetables that include padrón peppers and meaty mushrooms.

Set over three floors of a historic townhouse in the city centre, this charming restaurant comes complete with parquet flooring, fine period artwork and a fittingly historical menu comprising either seven or nine courses. The interesting dishes date from a bygone era and could include beetroot soup with lamb (16th-century), goose pie with black sauce (17th-century) or elk pekenfleišas with samogitia (19th century). Following each dish comes an explanation of its origins, providing sustenance for your brain as well as your body.

A great example of classical architecture in Lithuania, Vilnius Town Hall is a special place and, hidden within it, is this comfortable and well-run restaurant. It’s worth making the journey a few kilometres outside the city to eat at this friendly restaurant; ask for a table on the enclosed veranda or in the garden to get a feeling of dining among the pine trees. The seven or so dishes are designed with sharing in mind and are overtly seasonal – in spring you might find a superb malted sourdough to begin with, followed by oysters with pine, scallops with buttermilk or roasted quail. There’s usually just one dessert on offer, but if it’s the coffee mille-feuille then you’re are in for a treat. Natural wines accompany the modern cooking.
