A family-run restaurant named after a thermal wind from the southwest that blows across the whole of the Levante region. The owner-chef, who has taken over the reins following the retirement of his parents, is closely involved with the collective of “Cuina Vallès” chefs, and their straightforward approach to traditional Catalan cuisine. As a result, the menu is bursting with legendary classic dishes such as Mongetes del ganxet white beans from Can Casamada, tripe with chickpeas, crispy fried brains, and the delicious oxtail stew. The first thing that draws your attention here is Casa Nita’s small size – a space of just 18m². This limitation has meant that they only work with fresh ingredients (which they buy daily from the century-old Mercat de La Independència across the street) and don’t have stoves or oven with which to cook hot food, hence the use of a blowtorch, sandwich-maker, Thermomix steamer etc, to put the finishing touches to dishes. Ébano occupies an aristocratic property in a residential district, and is surrounded by chalets and a pleasant tree-shaded terrace. In its bright, contemporary-style dining rooms, the focus is on modern cooking with strong traditional roots, seasonal ingredients and an obsession with defined flavours. The à la carte, including a selection of rice dishes (we enjoyed the “arroz del corral” with organic chicken, butifarra del perol sausage and butifarra blood sausage) is accompanied by daily specials, with a focus on fresh fish, and a tasting menu, from which you can also order individual dishes.
