This attractive, contemporary-style bistro is the “low-cost” sibling of the Pescheria restaurant situated in a more upmarket location on Salerno’s seafront. Run by the same management, the bistro aims to serve simpler dishes at more modest prices yet with the same focus on freshness and attention to detail evident in its sister-restaurant. As a result, you’ll find options such as oily fish and local white prawns on the menu rather than oysters and caviar. Don’t miss the squid soup with nduja sausage, potato mousse and crispy bread.

A very small, atypical restaurant, almost a bistro with only tables outside, at the counter with stools overlooking the sea or in the more classic dehors. The menu lists several fish recipes! You will find bluefin tuna, anchovies, squid... after all, the owners have been involved in fishing for four generations. Those with a sweet tooth should know that there is only one dessert on offer, the spumone, made for them by a nearby artisan ice-cream parlour. The dish that won the inspector over: octopus tentacles with chickpea hummus and anchovy colatura, simple but very tasty!

Pescheria

The name of this restaurant between the historic centre and the seafront refers to the main item on its menu, which is dedicated almost exclusively to fish (fresh and not farmed). Fish and shellfish are displayed in a glass cabinet and aquarium respectively, both of which are situated to the rear of the long, narrow dining room near the open-view kitchen. Classic fish dishes full of flavour (served raw, baked, cooked in salt, in water or grilled) are to the fore here.

Although a few meat dishes feature on the menu, it is its fish options (mainly traditional, such as tuna with mussels and escabeche-style aubergine) and occasionally imaginative desserts, such as the cheesecake with toffee and raspberry, that are the main attraction here.
