This characterful eatery is established in a former cafe in Runskt, a district that was once called Rongese. The owner, Peter Merken, is always on hand with excellent wine and beer tips to pair with the wonderful array of wholesome fare chalked up on the slate. Juicy rare entrecote steak with piping hot fries and al dente veggies followed by a Belle Hélène pear with vanilla ice cream and smothered in hot chocolate sauce: you can’t get more traditional than this brasserie score.

Pajtim Bajrami makes no bones about his love of produce, as the top-drawer scallops, wagyu beef and other delicacies quickly demonstrate. His Anjou pigeon is a perfect example: he first cooks the breasts rare before adding a high-flying felicitous blend of foie gras and truffles. Polished French classics are right up his street, enhanced by gutsy sauces and the odd Asian tang. A cosy interior depicts this eatery sodden with rippling ambition.
