Situated right in the centre of Assisi, La Locanda del Cardinale occupies an old palazzo that is home to the perfectly preserved remains of a Roman villa dating back to 70 BC in a fascinating setting full of history. The menu features simple recipes such as crispy organic egg with asparagus and marjoram, as well as more elaborate, modern dishes including quail and Danubio brioche with barbecued artichoke. It’s not surprising that this delightful restaurant also boasts a superb wine cellar with an array of carefully chosen labels that will delight wine-enthusiasts.
