Italian Contemporary, Mediterranean Cuisine · ★★ Michelin

In the historical center of Trieste, the majestic former stock exchange building has become the new gourmet address of chefs Matteo Metullio and Davide De Pra. Already awarded two stars in the city, the duo have created a spectacular open kitchen here, transforming it into an exciting stage for the few fortunate tables set before it. Three tasting menus are offered: one focused on meat, another on fish, and a third showcasing the restaurant’s signature classics, including the celebrated Harrysotto. Seafood, International
€€€
Situated amid the alleyways of the historic centre, Al Petes has a pleasant contemporary feel and is run by young, welcoming and friendly owners. Marko’s menu demonstrates an obvious preference for seafood, most of which comes from the Adriatic, and which is served with Mediterranean and even occasional Asian influences. The surprise tasting menu is highly recommended. Just around the corner, the restaurant’s small hotel (James Joyce) is the ideal choice for overnight accommodation.
