Plumed Horse
Contemporary, American Contemporary · ★ Michelin
$$$$
This location has housed a Plumed Horse since 1952, though the current iteration, approaching its second decade, is undoubtedly its most impressive. An elegant, comfortable space serves as the culinary stage for Chef Peter Armellino, who delivers his own take on Californian cuisine. Served either as a longer set tasting menu or a multicourse prix fixe with a variety of options, offerings change with the seasons, though the luxurious black pepper and parmesan soufflé with uni and Dungeness crab sauce is considered an essential. Chef/owner David Kinch writes a love letter to the city where he first learned to cook) at this New Orleans-inspired restaurant that feels a bit like a weekend party in the Big Easy. With its zinc bar, pressed ceilings, and open kitchen stacked with bottles of hot sauce, it might just fool you into thinking you’re in the heart of Louisiana—right down to the zydeco and jazz tunes on the stereo. This is a spot so beloved that locals (some even with kids in tow) know to arrive early to sample the special and spicy andouille-flecked gumbo z’herbes; oyster po’boys with white chile sauce; golden-brow

Jeffrey Stout has clearly settled in to his position at the helm of this international gem, packed with a crowd of loyal fans, despite its rather modest shopping-center locale. Polished yet casual with a large front bar and patio, a meal here is best enjoyed with a group—so come prepared to max out the menu.Dishes may spin in various directions, but this team won't steer your wrong. Kick off with a cocktail; then tuck into fresh hamachi enriched with avocado-dill purée, persimmon, and deliciously tart sunomono. Dio Deka
Greek, Mediterranean Cuisine
$$$
Dio Deka may specialize in Greek food, but this is no typical taverna, as the stylish dining room (complete with a roaring fireplace) ably demonstrates. A wealthy, well-dressed Los Gatos crowd flocks to the front patio on warm evenings, dining and people-watching within the vine-covered walls of the Hotel Los Gatos. The bar also draws a brace of cheery regulars. Nothing beats a mesquite-grilled and oven-baked pita with olive oil and oregano to kick off the meal. Then, keep things Greek: think stuffed grape leaves with tender braised beef cheek or a bright pan-seared local salmon with roasted y

Located in an intimate room at the back of Tasting House, a relaxed wine bar, diners at Vicinity will find themselves in an exclusive realm of invention and storytelling. Chef Julian Silvera oversees an intricate modern tasting menu that draws from his life, from a Lower East Side upbringing to foraging in the coastal wilds of California, brought together with vivid creativity and visual flair. Although at times presentation and narrative can eclipse simpler pleasures, the meal is anything but boring, and excellent ingredients keep things aloft. ASA South is like your good looking friend, who also just so happens to be the perfect dining companion. The space is plain likable, featuring a chic dining room set with sleek furnishings, silver bark-like wallpaper and black-and-white photos. And then there's the kitchen, which doesn't take itself too seriously and manages to infuse a bit of fun into its repertoire of serious food. Case in point? The signature rigatoni with mushrooms, described as having too many ingredients to list. But, rest assured as they do a bang-up job. There's something for everyone on this wide-reaching carte, espec

Chef/owner Jo Lerma-Lopez's love for food is clear in every morsel that emerges from this kitchen. The name, which means "moon" in Spanish, doubles as an acronym reflecting the team's ethos of "L(local) U(unrefined) N(natural) A(authentic)" cooking. Ingredients are carefully sourced: Rancho Gordo beans, Mary's free range-chicken and house-made staples like chorizo, stocks and sauces all play a role. Fresh tortillas are pressed in-house, and the results shine across the menu, whether in crisp Baja-style fish tacos or sizzling parrilladas served with handmade nixtamal corn tortillas and deeply f

Petiscos are as much a cultural reference as they are a small snack accompanied by drinks. They're fun and approachable—designed to be shared among good friends and family—so it goes without saying that this spot, complete with a bar, knows how to welcome guests. Authentically prepared dishes highlight the flavors of Portugal and feature imported ingredients. The rustic, home-style cooking includes favorites such as broa, a traditional cornbread, and lupini beans, codfish croquettes and a tender octopus salad that is a meal unto itself.
