Somni
Contemporary, Spanish · ★★★ Michelin
$$$$
Chef Aitor Zabala and his dedicated team have awakened Somni, Catalan for "dream," from a long sleep and have fashioned this revamped iteration as a distinctly personal and unique dining experience. Tucked away just off Santa Monica Avenue, the dining room's soothing, creamy palette with light wood and glass is marked by a colorful bull's head from the original spot, hinting at the Spanish-inflected cuisine. A procession of small bites is meticulously arranged and endlessly creative, sating diners with an abundance of rich flavors and textural interplay (think mussel escabeche, gazpacho, or th

Nozawa Bar is secreted away in the back of the Beverly Hills location of Sugarfish, yet this jewel box is entirely independent of the local chain it's housed within. Omakase is the sole dining option here, served as multiple courses of nigiri along with some sashimi and handrolls. Each sequence centers on exceptional seafood, most of it sourced from local waters. The menu features both tradition and novelty. Start with the perfectly crunchy jellyfish dressed with ponzu. This might be followed by an impressive presentation of deliciously tender slivered octopus. Sushi highlights include the del

Ardor
Californian, Mediterranean Cuisine
$$$
If a luxury spa ran a restaurant, it would probably look something like Ardor. Cushy white velvet and leather booths, white and beige staff uniforms, and enough verdant greenery to rival a small forest match the equally chic aesthetic at its parent venue, the West Hollywood EDITION hotel. The prices are high too, not that any hotel guests would even notice. But know that there is plenty of substance and care packed onto this vegetable-forward menu. Tandoor carrots with hummus and paprika vinaigrette or grilled dukkah-crusted ahi tuna with yogurt make for satisfying, clean eating. Dry-aged lamb

Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo opened the original location of this easygoing Italian-American café in 2015, and it’s been busy-busy ever since. The slender room is soaked in sun thanks to the skylights and features a long counter that stretches the length of the open kitchen. The team works the wood-fired grill and blazing oven with ease, the servers are on point, and even after all these years, the food is as charming as ever. There are plenty of pizzas, all of them with lightly charred edges and topped with everything from smoked ham to vodka sauce. But don’t slouch on the rest of the menu, lik

This whimsical, immersive space is a touch otherworldly, with its tangled greenery, moody lighting, and trance-y soundtrack, but guests will be happy to fall under its spell when they taste Chef Jordan Kahn’s singular cuisine. Primal live-fire cooking combines with a zero-waste ethos and a treasure trove of sustainably sourced wild and organic ingredients to create dishes that are as memorable as they are delicious. Charred yam with a buttery sauce accented with smoked trout roe and grilled hazelnuts is more than the sum of its parts, and a dish of honey-grilled Sue Buxton scallops is sided by

A perennial hit since opening (expect a wait), this decade-old darling continues to please with creative cocktails and Italian cuisine. The décor veers from typical osteria-style, thanks to handsome dark-wood paneling and a white marble counter but nab a seat at the Mozza bar for a prime view of the antipasti preparation.Bread is something of an obsession here, as is the mozzarella menu. Chef Nancy Silverton's team strives to show you around the corners of Italian cooking, The crispy chicken leg is pure and simple comfort food, and pastas are unsurprisingly phenomenal—try the orecchiette with

Seafood
$$$
This West Coast shack has serious East Coast vibes and sources sustainable, wild-caught seafood from both the Atlantic and Pacific. With an extensive raw bar, parking lot strewn with shells and a funky interior plastered with seafaring knickknacks, it’s a fitting tribute to Chef Michael Cimarusti’s New England origins. Chowder is a must, and this particular order offers a tempting flight of three: creamy New England, tomato-based Manhattan and buttery Rhode Island. The lobster roll, packed with tail and claw meat, is a gem, while chilled seafood platters and the grilled catch of the day are gr

Light streams in through the windows of this tranquil family affair in Little Ethiopia where a congenial team oversees a simply adorned setting that feels like a humble abode. They are content to let the food do the talking and offer a colorful selection of Ethiopian classics with vegetables and meat alike arriving on oversized silver platters lined with injera. Best shared with a group, the "veggie utopia" offers immediate insight into their talents, spotlighting lentils seasoned with berbere and turmeric. Finely chopped kitfo is something of a house specialty and the spicy Somali variation,
