This dining spot is firmly rooted as part of San Franciso's dining landscape. The nightly tasting menu is served in a swanky, bi-level warehouse decked out like a mogul's hunting lodge. The menu has a sweeping creative scope, drawing on both nostalgia and current culinary trends with a confident swagger.Highlights include a duo of oysters served two ways: one topped with a gooseberry mignonette and the second charbroiled with a grilled Jimmy Nardello glacage and finished with pickled biquinho peppers. Bold flavors presented with flair are a common thread, like in a buttery A5 Wagyu ribeye pair

Now ensconced in a roomier space, Sons and Daughters has never felt more personal and passionate. Chef Harrison Cheney's new Nordic culinary training is unmistakable in a culinary program that highlights myriad preservation techniques in carefully sourced vegetables, foraged mushrooms and seafood, with hints of his British roots peeking in as well, exemplified by a delectable Scotch egg featuring quail sausage wrapped around a molten quail egg. The kitchen's knack for vegetables can be seen in an indulgent signature dish of rutabaga noodles dressed with pork fat and a buttery sabayon. Desserts

Stroll into this lush, happening spot and your eyes will quickly fall on neon blue letters scrawled above the lively open kitchen: "did you eat yet?" The correct answer is "no": an empty stomach will be amply rewarded by the vibrantly flavorful cooking here. Southeast Asian flavors find unique Californian expressions in dishes like a signature orange-mango glazed fried chicken wing filled with chicken egg roll stuffing, or a Lao-style sausage with tangy pasilla pepper jaew. A version of halo halo, featuring mango jellies, shiso shaved ice and seasonal fruit, is a particular treat. Reservations

Landlubbers seeking a taste of the sea can be found pulling up a stool at this Castro institution, where waves of waiting diners spill out the doors. Inside the tiny, minimally adorned space filled with old-fashioned charm is better for twosomes, though larger groups can find berth at the outdoor parklet. The menu may be petite, but it's bursting with a bounty of pristinely fresh, sustainably sourced seafood. Hefty crab cakes served with tartar sauce are excellent, as is a Caesar salad with a tangy anchovy dressing, topped with juicy bay shrimp, or a cup of creamy Boston clam chowder loaded wi

A shiny gold door welcomes you to Niku, a buzzy, ultra-luxe steakhouse in the Design District. The swank, wood-lined interior features an array of cozy tables, but a seat at the handsome 18-seat chef’s counter allows you to watch Chef Dustin Falcon and company work their magic under the warm glow of the coals.Dinner might begin with their signature beef tartare or perhaps tender bone marrow. Then move on to the excellent steaks, like the Tomahawk built for two; or melt-in-your-mouth Imperial Wagyu filet mignon, served with 200-day-old kimchi, bordelaise sauce and sea salt.
