KRZYWA Sztuka Wina

Regional Cuisine · Bib

€

If you fancy a quality glass of wine and some flavour-packed comfort food at a great price, look no further. A simple but delightful spot, this bottle shop, bar and restaurant is run with a smile by its engaging owner and his friendly, knowledgeable team, who will happily recommend a wallet-friendly pick from the extensive wine list. The food offering includes local cheeses alongside goose breast and hams cured in-house, with a more substantial choice of dishes at the weekend. Look out for the likes of veal champagne pâté and the knockout cheesecake for dessert.

The Moment

Traditional Cuisine · Bib

€€

Part of a popular dining hub near the Silnica river, this intimate eatery is ideal for date night thanks to its small size and gentle buzz. The highly appealing menu is filled with European classics executed with skill by the chefs. For evidence, order the fabulous Wiener schnitzel that could stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those in Vienna. Other dishes from beef tartare to chicken terrine are in a similar vein: generous, well-priced and utilising tried-and-tested combinations to great effect.

Acanti

Modern Cuisine · Bib

€€

Its name may suggest Italian cuisine lies in wait, but Acanti in fact offers a refined fusion of modern Polish dishes with influences from across Europe. Italy does make an appearance however, in dishes like the terrific pumpkin ravioli, which exemplifies the kitchen’s ability to delicately balance layers of flavour. Everything takes place in a bright ground-floor dining room and a more seductive, dark-hued basement, both within the Aparthotel T12, a beautiful converted old tenement. The friendly young team adds to the experience.

Amfora

Middle Eastern, Mediterranean Cuisine

€

There’s a stylishly stripped-back look to this passionately run restaurant where the moody colour scheme and lighting set the scene for a globetrotting meal. The menu is inspired by the chef’s travels and features flavours from around the world, including several from the Middle East, and each dish is as generous in size as it is in flavour. The thoughtfully curated wine list includes a strong natural selection and plenty of choice by the glass.

Śląska Prohibicja

Traditional Cuisine, Polish

€€

In the history-rich neighbourhood of Nikiszowiec, this large restaurant sits on the ground floor of what was once accommodation for local miners. In fact, you can still get a sense of the vintage canteen the dining room once was. Today, it’s enlivened by bookshelves and foliage, while the cooking offers hearty renditions of Polish and Silesian classics. A prime example is the breaded bone-in pork chop with piquant dried capers, cucumber salad and sour cream.

Młodnik

A friendly welcome awaits at this family-run brasserie in the city suburbs. The interiors are decked out with modern furnishings and plenty of foliage, while a lovely paved terrace is the place to be when the sun is shining. The cooking offers clean, distinct flavours across dishes such as local herring with sour cream, apple and horseradish, as well as those with more of a Mediterranean influence. A strong version of the classic kogel mogel is a great way to finish.

Ogień i Sól

Meats and Grills

€€€

Set in the striking regenerated Geyer Gardens district, this former factory has retained an on-trend industrial edge to its interiors, with the exposed red-brick walls and open kitchen catching the eye. Steaks are at the heart of the menu, cooked over charcoal either on or off the bone and served with a choice of sauces. The quality of the dry-aged meat provides plenty of flavour, with some wagyu options available if you’re looking to celebrate in style.

Malinowa

Modern Cuisine

€€

The Grand Hotel has been hosting visitors to Łódź for over 130 years and its former ballroom is now home to this delightful restaurant. Fusing old-world charm with a striking contemporary interior, it has an elegant, restful vibe and is run with a smile by the welcoming team. The menu is full of bright, fresh and well-crafted dishes, such as the homemade linguine with a rich bisque and plenty of crab meat, and the classic rum baba with a well-judged punch.
