A narrow road leads up to this wonderful restaurant surrounded by vineyards and boasting a pleasantly shaded terrace overlooking Lake Biel – dining al fresco here is an absolute joy! Allow yourself to be pampered by the charming front-of-house team led by maître d' Cynthia Lauper as you savour the "Menu Surprise" conjured up by chef-patron Marc Joshua Engel. This is sophisticated cuisine imbued with creative accents, eg venison fillet with black garlic, asparagus and cherries. Alternatively, there are a handful of à la carte dishes. Your hostess and sommelier will gladly recommend fine wines –

The pretty centuries-old house fits perfectly into a charming location in the heart of the old town. Make the most of the fine weather with an aperitif on the terrace on the medieval square or in the 12C vaulted cellar. Afterwards, host and chef Manuel Zaugg's five- or six-course tasting menu is served in the cosy, modern little restaurant. A nice idea: The menu is enclosed in an envelope, so you can decide whether you want to open it or be surprised. Made with excellent ingredients, the seasonal dishes are modern and creative. Local influences are skilfully combined with interesting Asian tou

Set in the heart of the peaceful village of Sonceboz, this establishment is a culinary landmark in what is known as the Jura Arc and throughout Switzerland. The restaurant’s success is largely due to chef Jean-Marc Soldati, at the helm for many years now. Tradition is a serious business for this alumnus of Crissier, where he worked alongside Fredy Girardet and Philippe Rochat. Three surprise menus unveil a pedigree score, as spot on as it is suave, and drawn mainly from local and French ingredients and from the chef's own kitchen garden. The wine list features a selection of regional, Swiss an

What a wonderful, endearing place! This charming 19C farmhouse is a true idyll that is perfectly at home in this rural village location – it's well worth the trip out here! The cosy interior and pergola simply make you feel right at home: comfortable, yet stylish and elegant, lovingly decorated with attention to detail. The absolute highlight in summer is the fantastic terrace surrounded by old trees and a view of the countryside! Kurt Mösching's kitchen delivers modernised classics – these are dishes that are sophisticated in terms of flavours and technique and revolve around the excellent in

This picture-perfect inn is warm and welcoming and certainly looks charming inviting with its red shutters. Chef-patron Falk Fleischhauer manages to strike a balance between home-style and classic cuisine – the result is delicious and reasonably priced dishes. Consult the blackboard for enticing daily specials, or plump for tasty classics. The menu ranges from tripe to sea bream fillet and Angus beef entrecôte. The service is very friendly and anything but stiff. In summer, the lovely tree-lined terrace is a real draw.

Take a seat in one of the gorgeous dining spaces, or on the lovely, pleasantly peaceful garden terrace, to enjoy traditional and regional fare. The menu features, for instance, local lake fish; European perch from the Lötschberg mountains is also popular. The good food is complemented by a really friendly family atmosphere, which comes courtesy of the attentive service team. In the simpler Gaststube, you can order the dish of the day.

To enjoy good food above the rooftops of Biel, head to the sixth floor of Hotel Elite. In this central location near the train station, you get a splendid view of the city and the Jura mountains. The atmosphere is unpretentious, the service is friendly and the cuisine is contemporary, with regional and Mediterranean influences. The appealing à la carte menu ranges from beetroot gnocchi to sea bass and braised pork cheeks. Tip: If you're not dining alone, consider kicking off with a few small plates to share.

This intimate, lively restaurant on the Place de la Fontaine exudes the Belle Epoque charm of the Parisian brasseries of old. A feel that chimes perfectly with the traditional, French dishes chalked up on the blackboard. Favourites include scallop risotto, entrecôte and tarte tatin.
