De Moerbei

Farm to table, Modern French · ★ Michelin

€€€

Chef Michael Corpel and sommelier Frank de Haas are writing a new chapter in the illustrious story of De Moerbei. In 1996, this old farmhouse was transformed into a stylish restaurant exuding elegance. From its early days to the present day, the ambition of this place has remained unchanged: to delight guests with top-quality produce, be it wine or North Sea sole. Chef Corpel takes inspiration from techniques and ingredients from all over the world, while resolutely forging his own culinary path. His meticulously crafted dishes draw on local produce, enhanced here and there by exotic touches,

Café Visscher

€€

You could definitely call Arie Visscher's "café" a luxury brasserie. An abundance of red velvet, marble and copper give the place a remarkably warm and welcoming feel. Open all day from 11am, it's a great option for lunch, dinner or a quick bite at the bar. Chef Visschers specialises in French classics such as steak tartare elevated with smoked eel, or sea bass with a delightfully buttery potato mousseline and artichoke. He also showcases his creativity with a modern dish based on hispi cabbage. This Rotterdam native sticks to a single set menu, crafting beautifully balanced no-nonsense cuisin

Café de Gaper

International, Modern French · Bib

€€

Café de Gaper is delightfully laid back. A glance at details such as the exposed beam ceiling and the elegant apothecary cabinet reveals the building's rich history. The menu, divided into bites / raw / cold / hot / cheese / sweet, offers excellent value for money. The chef likes to give classic recipes a twist with fiery Asian seasonings. Think brioche with a salmon farce fine enhanced with chipotle, or briefly fried mushrooms and halibut with a crispy crust paired with a beurre blanc and dashi emulsion for a touch of umami. And to win you over completely, there is a nicely curated wine list.

Restaurant Suzie's en Van Aken

Chef Tom is no stranger to the concepts of nose-to-tail eating and zero waste. With a keen sense of the zeitgeist, this is a creative chef who draws inspiration from his extensive travels, especially to Asia. For example, a beurre blanc sauce with dashi that adds depth to a salty dish based on oyster and samphire. The jovial Suzanne plays her part, serving up excellent wine and dessert recommendations. The natural vibe of this cosy establishment will make your dinner that little bit more enjoyable.

Latour

Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

€€€€

Here you can admire how the beach merges with the North Sea. Red, yellow and ochre tones dominate the upscale decor in turn. The colourful rugs, art on the walls and classic furniture all add to Latour's luxurious, elegant feel. And then there is the extremely attentive service, which will make you feel like royalty! Kenny Friederichs brings a vibrant edge to this magical place by striking the perfect balance between classic cooking techniques and modern precision. His dishes are clearly structured, celebrate local produce and are free of unnecessary frills. He pairs al dente squid tagliatelle

LIMES aan den Rijn

Modern Cuisine

€€€

Daan Reijngoudt is a chef who knows the importance of sauces. Think a delicate foie gras cream sauce with a hint of Calvados to add depth to fried duck liver with sweet fruit garnishes and a brioche roll. His cuisine is beautifully in step with the times, without resorting to any unnecessary frills. Inside, you can watch the chef at work in the attractive open plan kitchen. However, a spot on the terrace, nestled right next to a business complex and overlooking the river, might be your best bet.

Enjoy an aperitif on the restaurant’s boat or on the terrace overlooking the water before sampling cuisine which pays real tribute to the history of Leiden. In this trendy restaurant, a highly imaginative chef serves subtle and precise reinterpretations of classic dishes, while the extensive wine list is a veritable Bible!

Bistro Bord'o

The moment you enter this welcoming restaurant, the emphasis on French and European wines is unmistakable. So, an aperitif is definitely in order before settling down to the food, which is rooted in French culinary tradition and includes occasional international influences. No fancy foams here, just top-notch ingredients. Think rare ribeye accompanied by a full-bodied bordelaise sauce, or sea bass ceviche marinated in calamansi and red chilli, seasoned with pezo and served alongside fresh snow crab, coastal vegetables and fennel prepared with a crisp, acidic dressing.
