Chef/owner Enrique Olvera’s seminal dining room has long stood as one of the country’s most famous addresses. This breezy, contemporary space is a constant hive of activity, thanks to servers dressed in sharp, black suits and a crowd eager to dine here. Some come for the taco omakase, but the culinary heart of this restaurant lies in the seasonal tasting menu. Tradition and invention go hand-in-hand in the likes of scallop ceviche with egg salad or grilled Baja coast rockfish with butternut squash puree and sherry foam. The savory progression culminates with mole madre, an effort like no other

This chic dining room from Chef Jorge Vallejo and his wife Alejandra Flores is named for an herb native to Mexico. A discreet facade belies the lively, engaging experience within, with a hip vibe that is anything but stuffy. The stylish cuisine utilizes local products — including a variety of insects, deployed with subtlety and then displayed for effect. These ingredients are combined with interesting techniques, both modern and traditional, while creativity produces unique compositions. The tasting menu shifts with the seasons but may include striking bites like a tartlet of guajillo-glazed m

Comedor Jacinta

Mexican, Traditional Cuisine · Bib

This cozy restaurant is owned by the renowned chef Edgar Núñez. Here, the premise is traditional cuisine that draws on his childhood memories. The dishes are simple, but tasty, with excellent technique and abundant portions--all at a reasonable price. The menu has a botaneria section, with dishes based on corn, and another section with molcajetes, or dishes made in this traditional mortar from Mesoamerica, accompanied by guacamole and handmade tortillas. Some of the outstanding items include tostada de callo de hacha, tacos de tuétano, and huachinango zarandeado. Flan de cajeta is the perfect

Located on the ground floor of a residential building, this restaurant could easily go unnoticed, but one bite of their contemporary Mexican cooking and you won't soon forget its address. A welcoming staff invites you to take a seat and peruse their menu or opt for one of two tastings. A plantain molote with a bit of pickled onion is a nice opener before savoring the flavors of an aguachile in a cuttlefish ink broth. Tostada de camarón is a spot-on treat, then pescado zarandeado delights with its crispy skin. To finish, arroz con leche is comforting and classic.

Siembra Tortillería

Mexican · Bib

Chefs Karina Mejía and Israel Montero opened this modern taqueria in Polanco in 2019. Located just a few doors down from their full sit-down restaurant, Siembra Comedor, this sidewalk hotspot shells out a wide variety of tacos built on heirloom corn tortillas and quality proteins. Fish al pastor boasts wonderfully charred spices while the arrachera feels like a play on steak frites thanks to the crispy, shoestring potatoes on top. The kitchen works quickly, and tacos are ample in size.

La Once Mil

In a city teeming with every kind of taco imaginable, it’s a Herculean task to rise above the throng, but there’s no denying that this bustling operation manages the feat with style. Once seated, diners will find their tables decked out with an impressive array of excellent house-made salsas, ranging from gentle (a vibrant salsa cruda) to incendiary (a beguiling “martajada” with arbol and morita chiles) but the fireworks are just beginning. Top-quality meats are a feature, as in a marvelously succulent, flavorful Prime arrachera — you’ll be hard-pressed to find better in any steakhouse. Just a

The address may no longer be a secret, but reservations at this hot spot are closely guarded (and only available by direct messaging on Instagram). The covered rooftop setting is enhanced with bountiful greenery and a lovely, relaxed vibe.Chef Ana Dolores González and a young, talented team cook with plenty of personality and a solid foundation of strong technique and good ingredients. Styled like a tasting menu and portioned for two, these dishes are impressive. Items of note include the pescado del dia, which may be grilled cod set in a luscious green mole with crushed ripe plantain, fava be

Charm abounds at this unassuming Condesa spot, where concrete floors and exposed brick belie warm, polished service and sophisticated cuisine. A café offering simple dishes during the day, at night the kitchen gets to really show off Chef Victor Toriz’s bold, inventive cooking. Shareable plates blend seasonal inspiration with traditional flavors, embodying an exciting yet approachable style that is thoroughly of the moment. Offal is a particular highlight, as in crispy tripe paired with Ocosingo cheese and roasted beet, or perfectly seared sweetbreads with a creamy chileatole sauce. Produce an
