Il Papavero

Modern Cuisine, Campanian · ★ Michelin

€€

Papavero is the Italian for poppy, a plant which grows tall and has strong roots, making it an apt symbol for this restaurant housed in a palazzo in the town centre. In a few classic-style rooms, the chef offers a menu that focuses on fish and seafood, although ingredients from the surrounding countryside also feature. Simple, solid recipes made with just a few ingredients, exactly as described on the menu, and a passionate dedication to the Mediterranean result in attractive cuisine which also offers good value for money. In fine weather, meals are served outdoors under the jasmine in a roman

Le Trabe

italian · ★ Michelin

€€€€

This restaurant lies within the Capodifiume estate, a microcosm that is home to the source of the Trabe river (hence the restaurant name) and a hydroelectric power station which supplies the estate with its energy and which guests can visit with the friendly restaurant staff on a short but interesting tour before dinner. A welcome aperitif and canapés are served in the wine cellar, after which guests move to the elegant dining room – a beautiful setting which also takes into account respect for the environment, with various sustainable practices adopted by the restaurant. In the pedestrian heart of this enchanting village, embraced by the Lucanian Dolomites, the kitchen here is run entirely by women and now in its third generation. Antonietta preserves the local recipes with passion: from peperoni cruschi to cavatelli with pezzente sausage, from local lamb to prized Podolica beef, as well as wild herbs, authentic cheeses, and cured meats. All in a softly lit dining room with large windows to enjoy the surrounding panorama.

Cinque Foglie

Modern Cuisine

€€€

Cinque Foglie explores the roots of fine dining through the concept of “the evolution of ingredients”. Chef Roberto Allocca creates dishes that are regionally inspired, combing traditional flavours with an innovative touch. The ingredients, some of which come from the chef’s family farm in Piana del Sele, are showcased on three tasting menus, while the wine cellar is home to more than 1 000 labels, including some rare vintages.

Contemporary, Modern Cuisine

€€

Nestled in Mediterranean scrub just beyond the hills overlooking the coast, this rustic farmhouse welcomes guests amid centuries-old olive trees and restorative quiet. Inside, exposed stone and beams frame a relaxed yet elegant setting, with a small garden terrace perfect for summer evenings. Chef-owner Vincenzo has realized his dream here: to offer genuine hospitality and regional cooking revisited with a contemporary taste. Don’t miss the candele pasta with knife-cut Cilento ragù and goat’s cacioricotta, or the tagliolini with four tomatoes, basil, and shrimp crudo. The cellar stocks 300-plu

Bramea

Creative, Cuisine from Basilicata

€€

Bramea, whose name is inspired by a rare butterfly native to the Vulture area, comes to life within a skilfully restored ancient ruin. The restaurant, characterised by a modern and contemporary style, presents a cuisine that expresses itself through several tasting menus, set alongside a concise and well-calibrated à la carte menu. Lucanian ingredients form the point of departure for every journey and make their impression from the very first amuse-bouches: the fried lampascione and the taste of gnummareddo both stand out as particularly accomplished, immediately arousing the curiosity of the
