This place may have a resolutely relaxed atmosphere, but in no way does that detract from the high degree of professionalism in both the service, courtesy of friendly owner Bernd Mossmann, and Paul Hunger's cuisine. The chef turns out fuss-free dishes made using top-notch, mostly organic regional produce – the full-bodied beef broth with root vegetables is a delicious way to kick off your meal. The interesting decor featuring unique decorative elements makes for a charming vintage feel. When the weather is nice, head for the inviting terrace. Thomas Scheucher's restaurant champions a pleasingly pared-back take on classic cuisine that highlights top-quality ingredients and delivers full flavour with charming simplicity. The menu features dishes such as vitello tonnato made from Andelsbuch veal topside and garnished with caper blossoms, and Lake Constance whitefish fillet with aubergine relish, lime and basil broth, and olive gnocchi. The decor is both tasteful and inviting, with modern artwork and designer lamps adding a touch of elegance. Floor-to-ceiling windows look out onto the garden, where a lovely terrace is set up in summer.

Its origins dating back to the 17C, this site is steeped in history. Today the building houses pretty hotel rooms and an extremely tasteful restaurant with authentic charm – plenty of wood and low ceilings make for a really cosy atmosphere. In summer, the terrace, too, is very inviting. When it comes to the food, the kitchen draws on what the market has to offer. Top-notch ingredients are used to create classic veal tartare with pan-fried sweetbreads, for example. The marvellous selection of 600 wines, including top wines from Austria, Italy and France, is a must for wine lovers. The service i

This charming old Rhine Valley building dating back to 1639 is quite something! A Dornbirn landmark right on the Marktplatz (still the market square), it has been sensitively renovated and restored, and now boasts five really beautiful historical rooms. Delicious Austrian cuisine with Mediterranean influences is on the menu – the Wiener schnitzel and fried chicken are as appetising as the pickled char with radish and rhubarb-wild garlic vinaigrette. The spacious terrace, shaded by parasols, is also inviting.

An absolute must for lovers of classic cuisine! Bernd Schützelhofer works only with the best the market has to offer, using these ingredients as the foundation of his expressive, clearly structured dishes. His no-frills, down-to-earth cooking is focused entirely on the flavours, for example: the finely seasoned wild scallops are perfectly fried and translucent, with a beautiful roasted flavour, and served with slightly al dente risotto with a subtle hint of Champagne, as well as crunchy white asparagus slices, tender, sweet peas and shavings of artichoke bottoms. Here, the cooking has been taken back to basics, with the focus placed squarely on the first-rate regional produce. The cuisine of Felix Messner – who runs the restaurant together with his brother Florian – is inspired by Austria and Vorarlberg. The simplicity of the fresh, flavourful dishes (eg breaded fried chicken, potato salad, pumpkin seed oil) is in keeping with the decor in this timber building on the village square, which was erected in 1756 and renovated according to historical models. Warm wood panelling from floor to ceiling makes for a cosy interior. There are also smart guest room

The mindful concept shines through in Jonathan and Raphaela Burger's cuisine. Ingredients are sourced in the region, the fruit and vegetables are predominantly organic or grown by neighbouring farmers, and a nose-to-tail approach is applied to all produce. The latter philosophy is evident, for example, in a dish of grilled chicken hearts, pumpkin and Schupfnudeln (finger-shaped potato dumplings). They also enjoy cooking vegetarian fare, especially in winter when in-house fermentation plays a major role – for example, their "Vetterhof radish³, gochugaru, miso stock".
