We are always trying to discover new and interesting food experiences, something that is achieved to perfection at L'Ó. Its setting is opposite the Benedictine monastery of Sant Benet (dating back to the year 960) and next to the prestigious Fundación Alicia (ALI-mentación y cien-CIA), a research centre dedicated to food and science, the aim of which is to make us eat more healthily.Located inside the Món Sant Benet hotel and under the baton of chef Ivan Margalef, the restaurant focuses on cuisine that uses locally sourced organic ingredients in innovative contemporary dishes that showcase the

The devotion to the local area is clearly evident here thanks to the focus on vegetables from Els Casals’ own farm, meat from animals reared in semi liberty, eggs from their own hens, a herd of Duroc breed pigs, and local wild mushrooms, truffles etc. Almost all of its ingredients are sourced from the family farm, as part of a philosophy to “close the circle”: ingredients are produced, cooked and then served on the premises. The restaurant, which occupies an 18C farmhouse, reflects the work of five farmer brothers, one of whom, Oriol Rovira, is the chef. His à la carte features seasonal dishes,

The name of this restaurant, which can be translated as “dreamers”, showcases the personality of chef David Andrés and his brother Xavier who are behind the transformation of an old tanning factory next to the Museu de la Pell (Leather Museum) in Igualada. In this industrial-style setting of stone walls, open brickwork, designer furniture and striking leather decoration hanging from the ceiling (a nod to the history of the building), enjoy modern and fun cuisine with its roots in traditional cooking, including the option of a concise à la carte and a well-priced weekday lunchtime menu (which c

It’s impossible to mention the Hostal Colomí without recognising the hard work put in by the Camps sisters, Nati and Rosita, as they are the pillars on which this centrally located and very popular family-run restaurant are built. The restaurant offers a welcoming dining room dominated by an open-view grill and a second room on the first floor which is reserved for groups and weekend dining. The home-style and grilled Catalan dishes emerging from the kitchen here are supplemented by numerous regional and traditional recipes. The delicious cod fritters are a particular favourite as are the reci

This restaurant takes its name from the old Pyrenean tradition of log rafts, used to transport timber by river (there’s an exhibition dedicated to this traditional craft next to the railway station where the historic Tren dels Llacs also makes a stop). We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant, which embraces tradition from a more contemporary perspective, in so doing showcasing the so-called ‘Pallaresa nouvelle cuisine’. This simple yet pleasant eatery, with an open kitchen behind the bar, is run by a friendly duo of chefs, Clàudia and Jaime, who showcase their technical yet fresh

This unusual and unexpected restaurant, occupying an old bakery tucked away in a corner of the Plaza Mayor (remnants of the old ovens can still be seen embedded in the stone walls) is striking both for its setting, its medieval ambience, and its cuisine, the latter centred around a fusion of Japanese cooking with zero-mile ingredients from the Segarra area. Everything here revolves around two menus: an “executive” menu available at lunchtime, (Tuesday to Friday only), plus a tasting-style option.

Located about 5km southeast of Cervera, this restaurant is striking for its setting in an historic farm boasting large stone archways that was once the granary for the Montserrat monastery and the occasional residence of its abbot. The updated take on traditional Catalan cuisine (choose between the à la carte and an “executive” menu), is based around top-quality ingredients, many of which are, where possible, sourced locally. Els Comdals is also popular with groups and as an event venue.
