Terreo Cocina Casual

Contemporary · Bib

€€

A restaurant with a modern feel that everyone is talking about given its aim of creating elaborate yet more informal cuisine based around lighter dishes that still retain incredible flavour. The couple that run it (chef Quique Vázquez mans the stoves while Ana Señarís takes care of everything front of house) like to describe what they offer as “casual” to make their guests feel very much at home, with a focus on delicate sauces, an interesting fusion of raw ingredients (marinated and smoked), plus an extensive array of rice dishes. Half-“raciones” are also an option on the menu here.

€€

This successful, family-run business has had a new lease a life under the baton of chef Aitor Prieto, part of the third generation at the helm of this culinary institution and trained in renowned restaurants such as Culler de Pau (in O Grove). This welcoming eatery, located close to the Playa del Orzán, is hidden behind a large picture window that bathes the contemporary dining room in natural light, and where guests can enjoy attentive and informal service, with owner Alberto Prieto keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. The cooking here is an updated take on traditional cuisine with hints of

Árbore da Veira

Creative · ★ Michelin

€€€

Located closed to the emblematic artillery batteries that once protected the estuary, this restaurant on top of Monte de San Pedro will delight guests with its panoramic setting, with tables in the dining room offering views of both the city and the expanse of the ocean. It boasts several rooms for private events, lots of light, large bare tables, innovative tableware, and surprising culinary combinations, including impeccable cream sauces. In his own words, the cuisine of chef Luis Veira, a proud native of the city, “focuses the five senses firmly on the Atlantic”. This is reflected in a cons

Taberna 5 Mares

Contemporary, Galician · Bib

€€

The cooking at this taberna is fun as well as delicious! And with this in mind, the duo of owner-chefs Iria Espinosa and Luis Veira have strived for what they describe as the offbeat face of gourmet cuisine. This bright space occupying the former café adjoining the Arbore da Veira restaurant reflects the more informal and casual dining option of this award-winning name, which features an à la carte of appetisers and main dishes suitable for all budgets (it also includes a section entitled “landscapes for sharing”), in addition to an affordable tasting menu that showcases several signature dish

An attractive bistro-style taberna featuring a terrace, a bar where guests can also choose to eat if they wish, and two dining rooms with stone walls. The updated take on traditional cuisine perfect for sharing includes seasonal and market-inspired dishes, daily suggestions and Miga’s signature dishes such as the langoustine salad, the exquisite aged-beef tartare, and the boneless tripe stew (“callos de Miga”).

Omakase

Japanese

€€€

A restaurant with a restrained decor and a philosophy based on Omakase-style dining (hence the name) in the emblematic Plaza de María Pita of the city, where you’ll find nothing more than a sushi bar and a fish-aging cabinet. Here, Vigo-born chef Adrián Figueroa, a true expert when it comes to slicing techniques and the preparation of tuna, showcases his skills on a single tasting menu (to which you can also add extras such as eel, crayfish etc) that changes according to availability at the daily auction. Bookings need to be made via the restaurant’s website.

Eclectic

Creative, Modern Cuisine

€€€

A centrally located restaurant with a difference, given that its interior design resembles that of a private house, with a small entrance hall, an access corridor and a pass-through kitchen overlooking the dining room where various works of contemporary art adorn the walls. One of the restaurant’s key features is its “culinary liberty”, with chefs Paco Chicón and Sergio Musso (the former in the kitchen and the latter front of house) choosing a different theme every year (Galician women, Countess Emilia Pardo Bazán, Origen, Tempus etc). This season has been built around the concept of "Déjà vu"

NaDo

€€

Located along a narrow street in the city’s old quarter, yet just a few steps from the boats moored at the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña, NaDo boasts a thoroughly modern look, with an open-view kitchen and just two long tables that can be adjusted according to the number of guests. Here, chef Iván Domínguez, who is constantly moving between the kitchen and the dining room, creates contemporary cuisine with its roots in Galicia and the Atlantic. This is showcased in particular on the Furancho surprise menu, on which the chefs themselves select the dishes to be served.
