Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

After an extensive period working aboard, which saw him train at Le Cordon Bleu in London and then in other culinary pantheons such as Azurmendi (Spain), Frantzén (Sweden) and the erstwhile 108 (Denmark), young chef Tomás Treschanski has returned to his homeland with a limitless contemporary repertoire built around diversity. Occupying a remodelled house in the Villa Crespo district, this exclusive restaurant features a bar with an impressive collection of whiskies, an attractive glass-fronted terrace, and a contemporary-style dining room with just a single but elegant cedarwood counter for 11

The first thing that strikes you in this simple, unpretentious restaurant, somewhat tucked away in the Buenos Aires district known as “the island” of La Paternal (so called because it is partially enclosed by train tracks and the Chacarita cemetery), is its unique bohemian charm, despite occupying the former premises of an industrial bakery. From this period in its history it has preserved an old oven, some of the large tables used to knead dough that are now used by guests, and countless vintage items (old TVs, bread shovels, antique crockery, weighing scales etc) which add a genuine touch to

When we see a restaurant with a long waitlist, there’s a good reason for it! This modern, bistro-style eatery run by Julio Martín Baez, a chef who hails from the town of Chacabuco on the outskirts of Buenos Aires, and ably supported by chef Sol Peretti, describes his cuisine at his restaurant in the district of Villa Crespo as “indie” to give himself completely free rein to expand the concept of “less is more”. He has been highly successful in this, building a culinary model with lots of personality and one which is reliant on a team effort. Although the à la carte is not extensive, it is well

“We don’t take ourselves too seriously” is the claim of the young owner-chef at this modern and lively restaurant in the city’s Chacarita district. The à la carte here features just eight dishes, two of which are desserts, so you only need to order a few to enjoy this family-style dining experience (these dishes are sized the same way as clothes: S, M, L, XL and XXL!). There’s a contagious exuberance in the kitchen where the bold and honest flavours emanate from every corner of the globe. As an example, it was a surprise to find the Korean “tteok” prepared with typical “cacio e pepe” from Cent

ANAFE

The story of Mica Najmanovich and Nico Arcucci, who were already harbouring culinary dreams as students, is a tale of great conviction, as both pursued their ambition to work as chefs on their travels to Australia and Barcelona respectively. Their travels enabled them to assimilate cosmopolitan techniques and knowledge to their repertoire through influences from around the world. On their return, they started to work with pop-ups and, from this came a desire to open Anafe. In this simple eatery in the Colegiales district, their message is to “eat well, drink good wine and do both in a relaxed

We particularly enjoy variety and a sense of personality, hence our attraction to this relaxed industrial-style restaurant where everything revolves around informally, yet meticulously prepared fish, including tapas. Located in the heart of the Colegiales district, the overall feel here is original and fun. The decor features a large steel scaffolding-style bar counter (the tables are similar in design), colourful maritime-inspired murals and, in the centre of the room, a maturing cabinet that aims to add more flavour and new textures to some of the ingredients used here (bass, mullet, bream,

If you’re strolling through the essentially residential district of Villa Devoto, we recommend a visit to 4ta Pared, a restaurant that is somewhat off the main gastronomic trail but which is well worth tracking down, and whose name (literally, the ‘4th Wall’) refers to the theatrical situations in which actors break down barriers by interacting directly with their audience. It occupies a corner property with large windows and an intercom through which they check your booking. Once inside, you’ll find a contemporary-style decor with two different ambiences: a room with low tables, and a space d

There’s a palpable sense of authenticity in this friendly restaurant, where the young owners have created a warm and welcoming ambience perfect for a romantic supper. The service is attentive without being excessively formal, while the soft colour scheme contributes to Reliquia’s warmth and intimacy. The menu is equally attractive with options for every taste – the chef has a perfect command of flavours and textures and uses techniques such as escabeche to raise the level of his dishes further, many of which showcase vegetables in a more rustic, home-style manner. We suggest starting with the
