Little Bird Dim Sum + Craft Beer
Chinese, Cantonese · Bib
$$
Longtime local restaurateur Jonathan Lee's vision of pairing classic dim sum with local B.C. craft beer was the impetus behind Little Bird, and trendy Kitsilano is the ideal home for this hip lair. Inside, it's contemporary cool—the floors, tables and walls are created in part from recycled chopsticks. It's a classic lineup of dim sum favorites. Sticky rice studded with savory pork and chicken and sweet goji berries is a must-order. Of course, there must be dumplings, and Little Bird's run the gamut from traditional (ha gow) to surprising, with sweet corn, cilantro and shrimp. Supremely fresh,

Karma Indian Bistro

Wood planks, plush banquettes and rustic lighting set a sophisticated tone at Karma Indian Bistro, but its elegant setting isn't the only reason to make a reservation. The food is as pleasing as the surroundings, and the chef's serious vision is outlined on a menu of wonderfully delicious traditional dishes interspersed with bold, innovative plates.Expect richly spiced favorites such as chicken Madras, a fragrant specialty of South India. Coconut rice is the perfect sidekick to sop up all of that delicious, creamy sauce. Savor each bite of the mouthwatering jumbo prawns in a pureed spinach cur

You won't find white tablecloths or a formal atmosphere, but you will find one of Vancouver's most polished—and delicious—dining experiences. Effortless service, expertly prepared cocktails and unusually astute wine pairings are all part of the magic, but of course it's the seasonally inspired tasting menu that really steals the show. This globally accented cuisine consistently impresses, marrying precise technique and top-flight ingredients together in refined, focused dishes of exceptional clarity and depth of flavor. House-made torn bread, wagyu tartare, caramelized onions and red storm vel

Fable Kitchen
Contemporary, North American · Bib

This popular farm-to-table cafe has been drawing crowds to Kitsilano for over a decade. The setting is lively and comfortable, with exposed red brick walls, wood furnishings and two varnished wood counters seating a handful of diners facing the open kitchen. During daytime hours, the team turns out hollandaise-slicked eggs Benedict (and variations), Johnny cakes topped with pulled pork and tomato jam and thickly sliced challah French toast plated with caramelized apples and whipped mascarpone. A side order of rosti, two blocks of uniformly golden-brown finely shredded potato cakes accompanied

Farmer's Apprentice
Contemporary, Modern Cuisine · Bib
$$
Farmer's Apprentice is a true neighborhood gem. This tiny space with rustic appeal brings people together over innovative dishes like shrimp-crusted striped bass with XO sauce or radish and Sieglinde potato salad with chili-miso-tamarind vinaigrette. Fresh sourdough bread is baked daily— served with chicken asiento, it's a can't-miss. Local produce is feted, as in kale rapini with lush vadouvan butter, accompanied by lemony labneh, smoked pickled raisins and toasted hazelnuts. On weekends, Chef Alden Ong switches gears and serves Basta Barbecue at lunch, inspired by Tausug-Filipino cuisine. Th

It's easy to be won over by this convivial neighborhood spot, which owes its easygoing charms to the combined efforts of partners Bailey Hayward and Mathew Bishop (who oversee the service and the kitchen, respectively). To match the relaxed, friendly vibe, the cuisine is rustic and approachable, offering hearty dishes that draw inspiration from French country cooking, as in asparagus with saffron rouille, or pork collar with parsley sauce—and don't miss out on the fluffy, freshly baked rye rolls, served with green garlic butter. For a final slather of indulgence, do order dessert, like a rum b

Yuwa
Japanese, Seafood
$$$
Yuwa's chic interior may lean European, but just one bite of Chef Masahiro Omori's creations and you'll be firmly planted in Japan. This is not fusion cuisine; instead, the chef adheres to the classics. External influences may not come into play, but freshness does—the menu shifts daily to take advantage of the best products available. His nigiri selection features a masterful presentation with a nest of radish threads, fragrant shiso leaf and crushed ice. Buttery chutoro melts in your mouth, and the other offerings might include snappy, clean-tasting nodoguro, premium kinmedai, delicious sayo

Folke

Friends Colin Uyeda and Pricilla Deo have brought bright, delicious plant-based fare to Kitsilano with Folke. A wall of wine greets guests at the entrance to this small-but-sophisticated spot where deep blue walls are adorned with original seaweed pressings and dried grasses complement the tranquil, coastal ambience. The fully open kitchen turns out impressive items. Don't skip the irresistible bread served with kale "butter" sprinkled with sesame seeds. A main dish of tender yet crunchy cabbage resting in a silky mole made from potatoes has terrifically tangy and smoky notes. In addition to t
