Lasai
Modern Cuisine, Innovative · ★★ Michelin
$$$$
Dining at this restaurant with just 10 seats is like attending a show, but with the best seats in the house! Although it starts out quietly, the kitchen comes to life as the chefs embark on the task in hand, with interesting interaction between chef Rafa Costa e Silva and his guests. The surprise tasting menu begins with a variety of appetisers in which vegetables take centre stage – displayed on a wooden tray illuminated by a spotlight on the counter – and served in different forms and textures. These are organically grown in line with the seasons and are mainly sourced from the chef’s garden

Stepping through the gate of its discreet façade means leaving the bustle of everyday life behind and entering a space with a soaring ceiling height, where the past lives alongside the most modern vanguard. The main room carries a faintly industrial air, retaining its weathered red-brick walls, and is dominated by six large round tables and one special elongated table for five set before the open kitchen. The celebrated chef Alberto Landgraf is defined by simplicity and naturalness—hallmarks visible in his efforts to champion Brazilian roots and the transparency of flavours. His proposition ce

Brota occupies a charming mansion in Botafogo and is surrounded by a well-maintained garden. Inside, the elegant ambience features a contrast between striking red mouldings on the doors and large windows, a wood-inspired decor, an impressive bar, and leafy plants that add a touch of freshness to the setting. The kitchen is run by chef Roberta Ciasca from the renowned Miam Miam. The cuisine here is based around innovative vegan and vegetarian dishes designed for sharing. The menu includes classics such as the superb “brotinha” rice balls filled with tomato, pesto and olives or wasabi cream with

Casa 201
French · ★ Michelin
$$$$
This dining venue near the city’s botanical garden was initially designed to house an art gallery, and is now home to a restaurant that makes every guest feel truly at home (hence its name). After working in leading restaurants around Europe, Rio-born chef João Paulo Frankenfeld brings to the table cuisine teeming with strong technique, logic and flavour, while at the same time always showcasing Brazilian ingredients alongside delicate French detail that sheds light on his career trajectory. Once you’ve rung the doorbell here, you walk onto a terrace and then into the dining room, where you ca

Asian Influences · ★ Michelin

If you’re looking for an Asian dining experience close to Copacabana beach, make sure you book a table at Mee, an excellent option within the walls of the “Copa” (Copacabana Palace hotel). In this elegant restaurant where modernity and exoticism combine together harmoniously, the focus is on pan-Asian fusion cuisine that takes the tastebuds on a gastronomic journey to discover the flavours of Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Japan, Singapore etc. Chef Alberto Morisawa was born in São Paulo but his family origins are in Madara Shima (Nagasaki, Japan), hence the dominant influence of Japanese cooki

Sult is the perfect choice if you’re looking for a relaxed restaurant offering excellent value for money. Located close to the Morro de São João hill, it boasts a modern, uncluttered decor plus an impressive open kitchen and bottles of wine with notes from guests written on them as added decoration in the dining room. Under the baton of chef Julia Lottus, the cuisine features dishes that combine a Brazilian identity with the cooking of Italy. An example, and one that delights all his guests, is the fresh fillet of pirarucu fish served with a creamy tucupi and jambu risotto. Having said this, t

A restaurant that opened in Botafogo in 2005 and occupies an old property that belonged to chef Roberta Ciasca's grandmother. After graduating in France, the chef opened this restaurant that encapsulates her origins thanks to the retro furniture, cheerful and colourful decor, exposed brick walls and vintage wooden floors. The menu, which follows the concept of “comfort food”, concentrates on traditional Brazilian recipes which are always meticulously presented and based around the latest techniques, and is divided between Miam Miam’s classic (and most popular) dishes and seasonal options (whic

Aprazível
Brazilian
$$$
Aprazível is a must for those who love a combination of delicious cuisine and nature. This family-run restaurant is located in hills surrounding the city in the Santa Teresa district, with its narrow winding streets and breathtaking views. Here, chef Ana Castilho conjures up a menu featuring organic and biodynamic ingredients from different regions around Brazil, yet without neglecting either creativity or a delicate touch. We can highly recommend the ceviche in a tucupi sauce with plantain chips, plus the delicious free-range “galinhada caipira” chicken, served with sausage from Minas Gerais,
