Given his unique nickname, it would be a surprise not to have heard of Rafel Muria, the so-called ‘honey chef’, for whom this natural product is much more than a fad, given that his family have been involved in beekeeping since 1810 through their company artMuria. In this simple restaurant, this chef who trained in renowned restaurants in Spain, France and Italy focuses on high-level creative cuisine which he showcases via elaborate dishes involving the discreet use of honey to add balance and stability. The concept, which is attuned to conscious gastronomy and seeks to highlight the wines from

A gastronomic surprise tucked away in this small village in the Priorat wine region, nestled between mountains and surrounded by vineyards. Here, in this tranquil setting, chef Pieter Truyts, who trained in Michelin-starred restaurants in his native Belgium as well as in France and Spain, discovered the perfect place in which to “cook from the heart”, developing creative and highly interesting cuisine that showcases the very best local and seasonal ingredients, with a gift for combining them to maximise their flavour. There’s a small à la carte featuring traditionally inspired dishes with a mo

A magical journey through the flavours of Baix Ebre! This restaurant, located in a land of untold beauty, surprises with its location in the old stables, now modernised, of the beautiful resort of the same name, equipped with magnificent rooms and an impressive 200-year-old ficus tree (the roots of which are now firmly part of the structure of the building and the well). Here, chef Fran López continues to find inspiration in the natural bounty of the Ebro delta. On his menus (Clásico, Homenaje, and Más que un Homenaje), which this year mark their 20th anniversary, he offers traditional and cre

This centrally located restaurant, close to the city's harbour, offers the values of a family business that has remained true to itself, with honesty as its hallmark and a guiding principle that has remained unchanged since it opened its doors in 1969: to use only seasonal ingredients and take advantage of the quality of the nearby seafood. In fact, the fish and seafood come from the Cambrils fish market and its famous rice dishes are always made with Carnaroli rice from Molí de Rafelet in the Ebro Delta.Chef Arnau Bosch, who now flies solo at the helm of the kitchen (previously working with h

If you’re on the lookout for a restaurant with a little bit of history and with that ‘savoir-faire’ that only comes with time, this is a great option! The restaurant is split between two floors with a highly contemporary ambience, where guests can savour cuisine by the acclaimed duo of chef Diego Campos, one of the bastions behind the resurgence of local gastronomy, and his son Rubén, who brings a fresh approach to the proposal. The à la carte, closely linked to seafaring tradition from a modern perspective, is completed with three set menus (Gastronómico, Súmmum and Del Cava). It is pleasantly

Are you crazy about rice dishes? Then don't miss this restaurant, one of the most interesting places to try them in the Segrià region of Lleida. The chef, who offsets the simplicity of the setting with a large dose of friendliness and presence in the dining room, is committed to a traditional-regional cuisine faithful to local products. Although they offer a carefully selected set menu, with suggestive starters (such as the black pudding ravioli with foie gras), meats and fish, the most outstanding dishes here are the rice dishes (made from the different varieties of Molí de Pals), normally fo

This family-run restaurant occupies an old farm on the outskirts of Gimenells, where it works alongside the Institute for Food Research and Technology to promote the region’s locally grown produce. Features here include an attractive glass-fronted wine cellar, open kitchen, contemporary dining room, plus a pleasant private space with an open fire. The chef at the helm, Xixo Castaño, create traditionally based modern cuisine that is showcased on two menus (De la Pizarra and Q), plus an à la carte that features dishes from both. Sisè is situated in the district of Cappont, a residential area to the south of the city, where it is run in a very informal manner by Àngel Esteve, a young Lleida-born chef who has returned to his roots to open his own business (the name is his own small homage to his grandparents) having worked away in a number of leading restaurants. His cuisine, the main inspiration for which derives from the open grill, is showcased on an updated take on traditional cuisine, to which he adds interesting smoke-influenced touches (a superb example is the grilled cod with celery). The kitchen opens onto the
