Ogst
Modern French · ★ Michelin
€€€
Ogst is the epitome of charming. A natural, Scandinavian-inspired decor sets the warm, casual scene in which you instantly feel at home. Sébastien Wygaerts bowls us over with fresh produce and attention to detail, depicted by elegant plating, cleverly devised recipes and gutsy flavours. The chef fashions distinctive dishes thanks to fresh and acidic nuances, including the occasional exotic tang and doesn’t hesitate to stray from well-trodden culinary paths as he tries out original recipes. Examples include tartare of beef with finely diced watermelon, a fresh, acidic emulsion, oil of capers an

Modern Cuisine, Contemporary · ★ Michelin

Good food has no need of fancy fussy frills, as Wim Schildermans so masterfully illustrates. In a tastefully restored manor house that has lost none of its period charm, this creative maestro rolls out his “Just Eat Right” concept. First of all, he sources top-drawer, preferably local ingredients, and then deploys his consummate skill and talent. Chef Schildermans cooks boldly and has no qualms about surprising diners, illustrated by fillet of venison, served rare and underscored by a big-boned gravy enhanced with delicate and subtly vibrant Timut pepper. This is paired with marinated red beet

Innesto is the epitome of modern elegance, and the spruce interior sports a stylish black and white colour scheme, while marble details add a luxurious note. In fine weather, make a beeline for the patio. The front-of-house team is constantly on the ball to make sure you lack for nothing. You will see Koen Verjans in the glazed open kitchen, rolling out his obvious passion for outstanding ingredients as he deploys his creativity and technical background. He is particularly keen on mixing textures of vegetables to underscore their intensity, while sauces add an extra dimension to each dish. He

Peppe, the chef, and Gaspare, sommelier, are writing a new chapter of a culinary story that the Giacomazza family has been carefully composing for decades. Peppe and Gaspare are the second generation and they continue to celebrate Sicily courtesy of a refined, often original score that rolls out generous, 100% authentic flavours of fabulous delicacy.Italy’s rich ingredients are a secret for no one. Chef Peppe nonetheless manages to surprise by the quality of his produce, like gambero rosso, semi-cooked in a creamy risotto crafted with buffalo milk butter, or a gutsy bisque of shrimp heads enha

Brasserie Rongese
Traditional Cuisine, Farm to table
€€€
This characterful eatery is established in a former cafe in Runskt, a district that was once called Rongese. The owner, Peter Merken, is always on hand with excellent wine and beer tips to pair with the wonderful array of wholesome fare chalked up on the slate. Juicy rare entrecote steak with piping hot fries and al dente veggies followed by a Belle Hélène pear with vanilla ice cream and smothered in hot chocolate sauce: you can’t get more traditional than this brasserie score.

ROSS

Glenn Ross often waves a hi to guests from his open-plan kitchen overlooking the buzzy dining room; we recommend asking for a seat in the rear. The trendy vibe is the perfect foil for creative Gallic cuisine, paired with exotic delicacies and modern techniques, all of which in a bid to keep the flavours legible and familiar. The chef might pair a gutsy game dish with a powerful sauce and autumn veggies with a touch of acidity by adding the subtle bitterness of endive. The savvily curated wine cellar means that there is the perfect tipple for every dish of this culinary feast. At lunchtime, the

De Kwizien
Creative French

De Kwizien has become a culinary landmark of Hasselt and this buzzy eatery is right in the zeitgeist. Your delightful hostess pampers you as you tuck into a set lunch menu or a four- or five-course menu, flanked by flavoursome sauces and rich in creative ideas. The chef cooks Atlantic cod according to textbook tradition in its skin, flanking it with a gyoza of North Sea crab and a shellfish emulsion, together with thin slices of pumpkin and a mouthwatering sauce of tonka beans. This dish is one of the house signatures and a best-seller for good reason!
