LORE

$$
Welcoming with just the right amount of buzz, Lore embodies the perfect neighborhood spot—if your neighborhood happens to be sophisticated Park Slope. This unique corner storefront at the base of a residential building delivers creative Indian-infused and American fare made even more enjoyable thanks to warm service in an inviting setting. Chef Jay Kumar's food is certainly the star, but the poetic cocktail list is worth more than a cursory glance. Enjoy a three-course menu or order à la carte to revel in smart, refined dishes like roasted butternut squash over babaghanoush, a signature fermen

Runner Up

Next-door sibling Winner may earn the trophy for its bread and desserts (also served here) but Runner Up is likely number one in many hearts given its serious focus on fresh, seasonal produce anchored by savory heavy hitters. Blink and you'll miss this diminutive place drenched in natural light. The good vibes extend to the food, where you may tuck into a sweet-tart citrus salad with aged gouda and cool-crisp fennel. Then, toasted sourdough is served alongside creamy trout rillette for a smoky-savory bite. A play on tortellini en brodo uses paper-thin daikon radish as the "pasta" with crumbles

You have room for one more dish, right? It’s a question that will come up often at this sweet little diner in Crown Heights. Chef Jeremy Salamon takes inspiration (and the restaurant’s name) from his Hungarian grandmother for a delightfully casual but fine-tuned effort. With walls painted cupcake pink, the kitchen has a real talent for bread. A thick slide of grilled potato pullman bread smeared with whipped chicken liver mousse topped with sour cherry caramel is a decadent treat, while a bowl of savory chicken broth bobbing with nokdeli, or Hungarian dumplings, will cure your ails. Yes, there

Chavela’s

Ordering guacamole may be a reflex for many, but at Chavela’s, what lands on the table is far from the norm. Mexico City native Chef Arturo Leonar is the brains behind this exceptional riff, which mixes smoked trout, pico de gallo, and morita chile salsa to thrilling effect. His creativity even extends to other dishes, like taquitos de cangrego with sweet crabmeat and spicy salsa verde, as well as tamales with pork short rib and hoja santa with green mole Oaxaqueño sauce. Traditionalists may rest easy, as the subtly sweet mole coating chicken and enchiladas alike is bound to delight. Featuring

Risbo

Chef/owner Boris Ginet's all-day cafe is a perfect spot to visit before or after a visit to Prospect Park, just a stone's throw away. And while its whitewashed walls lined with artistic photos, industrial-chic cement floors and a glorious garden patio hint at its Brooklyn locale, the anchor here is the open-air, Parisian-style rotisserie, churning out a host of delectably roasted items. This menu highlights everything from bowls and platters to seasonal soups, vegetables and grains. The roasted chicken is a must. Marinated for 72 hours with a host of spices, it's a signature. The Risbo platter

This is the kind of spot that serves food so memorable you'll find yourself craving the same meal well after your visit. The kitchen is known for surprising diners at every twist and turn, as evidenced by the tteokbokki—spicy rice cake topped with Oaxacan cheese and chorizo. Start your meal with yache pajun, a savory and crisp pancake filled with vegetables. Not to be missed is the daegu jorim, cod fish braised in a luscious, sweet soy sauce served with tender daikon radish and jammy onions. Beat the heat with the mak-gutsu, chilled and icy soba noodles served with chili vinaigrette, then wind

This stylish Mexican restaurant is bright and modern, with light-flooded windows and comfy banquettes, while the communal table and cozy bar lined with stools are great spaces to socialize and make new friends.Alta Calidad, means “high quality” and this talented chef certainly puts his money where his mouth is. Crispy tempura shrimp are set atop a tortilla with crunchy cabbage remoulade for an original dish, while paper-thin carne asada sprinkled with Chihuahua cheese and griddled until caramelized and crisp is another standout. Oregano roasted chicken tacos are simply finished with avocado-ch

This trendy Brooklyn spot from Chef Paul D’Avino is quirky from start to finish, and that's exactly what makes it shine. The contemporary menu is equal parts modern and nostalgic, with an outlandish creativity to boot. It's all intended for sharing, so come with a gang and kick off the festivities with four squares of negroni Jell-O with Castelvetrano olives suspended inside. Garlic knot monkey bread is topped with dollops of Parmesan butter and before tucking into a plate of pasta, consider the muffaletta dim sum. You've likely never had anything like it before, where fried sesame balls are t
