Harry's Piccolo
Italian Contemporary, Mediterranean Cuisine · ★★ Michelin
€€€€
In the historical center of Trieste, the majestic former stock exchange building has become the new gourmet address of chefs Matteo Metullio and Davide De Pra. Already awarded two stars in the city, the duo have created a spectacular open kitchen here, transforming it into an exciting stage for the few fortunate tables set before it. Three tasting menus are offered: one focused on meat, another on fish, and a third showcasing the restaurant’s signature classics, including the celebrated Harrysotto. Whichever path you choose, the cuisine of Matteo and Davide ranks among the most thrilling in th

Osteria Altran
Italian Contemporary, Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

A small gourmet restaurant surrounded by the verdant landscapes of the Friuli countryside. In what was once a simple farm, owner Guido Lanzellotti has brought this seemingly rustic yet delightfully romantic restaurant to life, creating modern dishes that focuses on top-quality ingredients and careful preparation. Alessio Devidè’s cuisine includes a few local specialities alongside classic Italian dishes which he has reinterpreted with his own personal twist. There’s a huge wine cellar, and if you’re a wine-enthusiast, it’s well worth having a word with the restaurant owner – he has extensive k

A historic and rightly famous restaurant. The same family – now in its sixth generation – has been celebrating the flavours of the region since 1870, just a stone's throw from the Slovenian border, where traditions and aromas blend seamlessly together. Authentic emotions are brought to the table: Palatschinke lasagne with mushrooms and pumpkin béchamel sauce, veal tripe à la Carsolina flavoured with bay leaves and pecorino cheese, and the traditional “Kraško pecivo”, a soft cake with raisins and walnuts, accompanied by cinnamon ice cream. The wine cellar, lovingly curated by the owner, boasts

At Ruj, you can enjoy an authentic culinary experience steeped in tradition, with a menu described exclusively verbally. Local flavours and ingredients are enhanced, reinterpreted and adapted with a contemporary twist. On rainy autumn days, let yourself be pampered by a warm and comforting soup, perhaps one made with beans, turnip and bacon. The wine list also reflects the restaurant's philosophy, with a careful selection of producers from the local area and neighbouring regions. You will be looked after by dedicated and friendly staff, who will accompany you attentively throughout your meal.

A long-established, family-run restaurant, Ai Campi di Marcello has a simple atmosphere and serves classic, generously portioned fish and seafood dishes. Food can also be ordered to take away, plus there’s a video which explains how to make seafood risotto.

Špacapanova Hiša

Since 1937, Casa Špacapan has been a point of reference for the cuisine of the Karst. Today, under the direction of Ago Špacapan, the offering is renewed in the spirit of quality and territory. The kitchen celebrates local produce, much of it from their own production: charcuterie and cheeses aged in the cellar, estate wines (Teran, Rebula, Malvazija…), vegetables from the kitchen garden, and ingredients from trusted small suppliers. The dishes tell the story of the Karst, with specialities such as roast lamb or kid and ravioli filled with fresh cow’s curd. Alongside the à la carte and tasting

Al Piave
Friulian, Seasonal Cuisine · Bib
€
In a little village in the Friuli countryside, a family-run trattoria welcomes guests into two cosy dining rooms, connected by a charming stone fireplace that spreads warmth and the scent of wood. In summer, service moves outdoors, to a well-tended garden, where the murmur of the leaves accompanies the friendly atmosphere. The menu follows the seasons, bringing the region's authentic flavours to the table: succulent meats, aromas reminiscent of charcoal and, among the main courses, irresistible grilled dishes such as golden, fragrant lamb chops that convey all the flavour of tradition.

Al Petes
Seafood, International
€€€
Situated amid the alleyways of the historic centre, Al Petes has a pleasant contemporary feel and is run by young, welcoming and friendly owners. Marko’s menu demonstrates an obvious preference for seafood, most of which comes from the Adriatic, and which is served with Mediterranean and even occasional Asian influences. The surprise tasting menu is highly recommended. Just around the corner, the restaurant’s small hotel (James Joyce) is the ideal choice for overnight accommodation.
