La Boscana
Creative · ★★ Michelin
€€€€
If you’re looking for a special restaurant, La Boscana offers a culinary experience enhanced by its natural setting, with glass-fronted buildings overlooking pretty gardens, leafy groves and an idyllic lake, making this one of the most romantic places to eat in Spain! In its elegant dining room, bathed in natural light and embellished with designer details, enjoy innovative cuisine from Joel Castañé that has a strong emphasis on detail, both in terms of technique and presentation. Through his menus (usually one concise menu and a second, more extensive, seasonal option), the chef skilfully rew

Modern Cuisine, Farm to table · ★ Michelin

This family-run restaurant occupies an old farm on the outskirts of Gimenells, where it works alongside the Institute for Food Research and Technology to promote the region’s locally grown produce. Features here include an attractive glass-fronted wine cellar, open kitchen, contemporary dining room, plus a pleasant private space with an open fire. The chef at the helm, Xixo Castaño, create traditionally based modern cuisine that is showcased on two menus (De la Pizarra and Q), plus an à la carte that features dishes from both. We were especially surprised by their Brutesca-style snails and char

A restaurant that is well worth considering as it is never easy to find modern cuisine at affordable prices. The restaurant, which takes its name (’a beloved woman’) from an old Catalan language once sung by troubadours, boasts a contemporary interior with a kitchen visible from the dining room and an adjoining bar so that you can watch as the dishes are prepared in front of you. Chef Jordi Pallàs champions a modern fusion cuisine with plenty of Asian influences, both in the à la carte service and through his set menus (Aimia and Alma de Aimia). Our recommendation? Try their Llauna-style rice

Sisè is situated in the district of Cappont, a residential area to the south of the city, where it is run in a very informal manner by Àngel Esteve, a young Lleida-born chef who has returned to his roots to open his own business (the name is his own small homage to his grandparents) having worked away in a number of leading restaurants. His cuisine, the main inspiration for which derives from the open grill, is showcased on an updated take on traditional cuisine, to which he adds interesting smoke-influenced touches (a superb example is the grilled cod with celery). The kitchen opens onto the

This restaurant is located in the same building as the Lonja Agropecuaria, the largest farming auction in Spain, where the price of beef in other auctions depends largely on prices established here. Given the above, it’s no surprise to see this restaurant, which started life in nearby Tamarite de Litera before moving here, taking full advantage of the choice cuts of meats from this area. Chef Iván Vilanova serves up an à la carte of unpretentious dishes with a focus on seasonal ingredients alongside two menus (an “executive” menu for lunch midweek, as well as a tasting option), always striving

Are you crazy about rice dishes? Then don't miss this restaurant, one of the most interesting places to try them in the Segrià region of Lleida. The chef, who offsets the simplicity of the setting with a large dose of friendliness and presence in the dining room, is committed to a traditional-regional cuisine faithful to local products. Although they offer a carefully selected set menu, with suggestive starters (such as the black pudding ravioli with foie gras), meats and fish, the most outstanding dishes here are the rice dishes (made from the different varieties of Molí de Pals), normally fo

A pleasant and well-run family-owned restaurant that has the perfect balance between passion and professionalism. It features three modern and functional dining rooms serving an updated take on regional cuisine that aims to bring personality to every dish, with a focus on locally sourced and, where possible, organic ingredients. Choose between several interesting menus, including a tasting option that requires pre-booking, which is complemented by a varied wine list. One speciality that you won’t want to miss is the rice casserole with butifarra confit and pork rib.

This restaurant takes its name from the old Pyrenean tradition of log rafts, used to transport timber by river (there’s an exhibition dedicated to this traditional craft next to the railway station where the historic Tren dels Llacs also makes a stop). We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant, which embraces tradition from a more contemporary perspective, in so doing showcasing the so-called ‘Pallaresa nouvelle cuisine’. This simple yet pleasant eatery, with an open kitchen behind the bar, is run by a friendly duo of chefs, Clàudia and Jaime, who showcase their technical yet fresh
