Classic Cuisine, Seasonal Cuisine · ★ Michelin

The journey to this idyllic little hamlet is well worth it, for Gregor Smolinsky has a special talent: his ability to strip things down to the bare essentials. The focus is squarely on the produce. His style of cooking is classic and clear-cut; nothing distracts from the superior quality of the ingredients. Take, for example, the thick and fleshy freshly caught John Dory, served with a grainy mustard sauce and Catalogna. Only a few components are used, and they are always brimming with intense flavours. Tip: Try the brasato ravioli or soufflé – they have almost cult status! It's no wonder that

This restaurant is located right on Wollishofen harbour and boasts a magnificent view of the "Zürisee", as the locals call Lake Zurich. The kitchen team, led by David Klocksin, serve up punchy dishes. The four- to five-course surprise menu reflects this with pleasingly pared-down yet full-bodied creations, such as the vegetarian baked cauliflower with curry and peanut. However, the more "conventional" options, such as the Valais pike-perch or Zurich beef, are just as delectable. A vegetarian version of the set menu is also available. Feel free to add wine or alcohol-free pairings. This is a tr

Johanna Hagen and Christopher Knippschild are your congenial hosts here – she is an attentive maître d' with an easy charm; the chef, who has experience at some top-flight establishments (including Gustav and mesa in Zurich and Maaemo in Oslo) under his belt, cooks up modern, seasonal cuisine. Changing on a monthly basis, the set menu comes in seven, six or five courses and features dishes such as yellowtail mackerel with celery, ponzu, wasabi and caviar, and saddle of lamb with morels, peas and bitter lettuce. Wine pairings are also available. The atmosphere is welcoming, reminiscent of a pri

Widder Restaurant
french · ★★ Michelin

In the chic fine dining restaurant of the luxurious Widder boutique hotel, chef Stefan Heilemann and his team skilfully bridge the gap between classic and modern, drawing on international influences. Thoughtful preparation and precise technique go into the elegant dishes. The set menu starts as it means to go on, with a veritable explosion of flavours, in the form of light bites such as a fluffy bao bun filled with pulled goulash and amuse-bouches including tender, delicately sweet Algarve prawns with a refined cauliflower foam and crispy frosted herb pearls. The culinary delight continues wit

Andreas Caminada is the man behind this fabulous venture in the Marktgasse Hotel, located in the heart of the historical district on the right bank of the River Limmat. The beautiful, classically styled bar (perfect for pre-dinner drinks) leads into the elegantly appointed restaurant, designed by Patricia Urquiola. The set menu is devised for sharing. Chef Daniel Zeindlhofer remains true to the IGNIV philosophy while incorporating his own ideas. The focus is on both his technical skill and the outstanding ingredients. The numerous small dishes are meticulously crafted without unnecessary embel

After a successful stint at two-star restaurant 7132 Silver in Vals, Mitja Birlo has made the move to Zurich. In an impressive building next to the main train station – a prime city-centre location – he presents a cosmopolitan culinary concept that is truly one of a kind. In a relaxed, modern and elegant setting, diners take their seats on comfortable bar chairs at the counter right next to the open kitchen to observe the numerous exciting delicacies comprising the surprise menu being created – with the dishes explained by the chefs themselves. Vegan, Modern Cuisine · ★ Michelin

Zineb ("Zizi") Hattab offers something truly out of the ordinary in her charming pub-style eatery. Not only is her creative modern cuisine entirely vegan, but it also draws on fascinating Moroccan and Mexican influences. The dishes are straightforward and unfussy; here, it is all about flavour and soul. The chef – born in Spain and the daughter of Moroccan immigrants – grew up on the Costa Brava. Originally an engineer, she followed her passion for cooking and cut her teeth working with the likes of Andreas Caminada in Switzerland and at the Mexican restaurant Cosme in New York. Tucked away in an inner courtyard is Franz (the name is derived from the female-forward concept of "Frauen im Zentrum"), a space dedicated to culture, work and food. The latter is to be had here at Wirtschaft im Franz, in the form of a cleverly devised surprise menu comprising four, five or six courses. Modern and seasonal dishes such as "Beetroot, leek, mustard seed, horseradish" are pleasingly pared back and creative without being fussy. The emphasis is on the quality of the produce, with vegetables taking centre stage. Information on the ingredients used and their provenance is listed on th
