In one of the oldest buildings in the country, in the fully pedestrianised centre, chef Uroš Štefelin and his team welcome guests with genuine spontaneity. The gastronomic proposal is structured around three tasting menus – of five, seven, or nine courses – selectable at the time of booking. Regardless of the number of dishes, the journey celebrates local produce and recipes reinterpreted with contemporary sensitivity. Preparations such as krapci, ravioli filled with chestnuts and porcini, or sweetbreads, deftly served with finely cut vegetables, are but a few expressions of local tradition. I

Ideal for a summer lunch on the terrace, or inside during the evocative winter days when the lake, still and veiled in a light mist, creates an atmosphere of great enchantment. The welcoming interiors, distributed across several rooms, afford comfortable views of the lake’s beauty at every turn. The kitchen specialises above all in freshwater dishes, such as trout salad with potatoes or a flavourful fish soup. Among the main courses, the duck breast from the neighbouring valleys stands out, richly flavoured and served with pumpkin štruklji and an excellent red wine sauce.

Housed in the Grand Hotel Toplice which stands amid some of the most popular landscapes in Slovenia, this restaurant boasts truly breathtaking views of Lake Bled from its dining room and its outdoor terrace. Here, the chef offers tasting menus of various lengths featuring meat and fish specialities with the occasional international influence, as well as a 4-course option (the Gorenjska selection menu) with a stronger regional focus. On the latter, the array of local ingredients is showcased via a delicious hazelnut crème brûlée served with ice-cream made from cherries soaked in Terrano liqueur

Vila Podvin

€€

Vila Podvin is a country hotel and restaurant set amid the countryside surrounding Radovljica. Its greatest asset is the magnificent garden, an ideal setting for a cuisine that is fresh and intense, conceived to celebrate the local and seasonal produce of Upper Carniola, a region poised between Italian, Slavic and Germanic influences. The interior dining room is presented in a classic style, but for a more intimate and romantic experience the secluded tables in the alcove are particularly recommended. Among the most accomplished dishes, the agnolotti with morels and walnut sour milk stand out,
