If you are a fan of mountain, river or even hunting tourism (in season), make a note in your agenda to visit this small town, and nothing makes the experience more complete than recharging your batteries in a gastronomic restaurant. In this family-run restuarant, whose name recalls the effect of the cold and wet wind that blows through the Catalan Pyrenees to become warm and dry when it reaches the Pallars Sobirà region, they defend the ‘Slow Food’ philosophy with all their might. The pair at the helm, with chef Zaraida Cotonat behind the stove and José Antonio Rodríguez in charge of the dining

This restaurant takes its name from the old Pyrenean tradition of log rafts, used to transport timber by river (there’s an exhibition dedicated to this traditional craft next to the railway station where the historic Tren dels Llacs also makes a stop). We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant, which embraces tradition from a more contemporary perspective, in so doing showcasing the so-called ‘Pallaresa nouvelle cuisine’. A pleasant and well-run family-owned restaurant that has the perfect balance between passion and professionalism. It features three modern and functional dining rooms serving an updated take on regional cuisine that aims to bring personality to every dish, with a focus on locally sourced and, where possible, organic ingredients. Choose between several interesting menus, including a tasting option that requires pre-booking, which is complemented by a varied wine list. One speciality that you won’t want to miss is the rice casserole with butifarra confit and pork rib.

Standout dishes include aged beef loin tartare, pigs’ trotters stuffed with prawns from Sant Carles and several seasonal specialities such as Maresme peas with wild mushrooms and white prawns.

Particularly noteworthy for its impressive location within the exclusive Les Pardines 1819 boutique hotel, which itself enjoys a stunning setting at an altitude of 1,600 metres, this is a perfect option for winter sports fans as it is just five minutes from Grandvalira, Andorra’s largest ski resort. The restaurant, occupying an independent building in a truly unique natural space, is overseen by chef Oscar Villaba, who is responsible for the meticulously curated and traditionally inspired à la carte plus a tasting menu that requires booking in advance.
