Casa Marcial
Creative, Asturian · ★★★ Michelin
€€€€
Ably assisted by two of his sisters (Esther often helps out in the kitchen while Sandra works front of house) and his nephew Jesús, Nacho Manzano invites us on a magical culinary voyage back to his origins, his roots, and the land of his birth, as he draws on the flavours of the Asturias region from a contemporary perspective. In this stunning, remote location surrounded by mountains, Casa Marcial is much more than a restaurant; it bears witness to the close bond the chef forged with his local environment during his childhood. Passion, respect, love and hospitality all contribute to a symphony

This restaurant, occupying the oldest building in Arriondas, has a name that recalls those Asturians who left to find their fortune in the Americas at the end of the 19C, and then returned home wealthy and with a new social status. While the setting is special, with an interior dining room with a rustic-contemporary feel and a second glass-fronted room boasting attractive views of a delightful rear garden, the main attraction here is the culinary expertise of chef José Antonio Campoviejo. This chef’s great passion for cooking is showcased in his attention to detail, flavours and creativity, wit

Few places in Ribadesella have as much personality as the hotel Villa Rosario, the iconic Indian palace of 1914 where this restaurant is located, recommended by the MICHELIN Guide. The restaurant, which occupies a glassed-in terrace with superb views of the Bay of Biscay, has chef Israel Moreno behind the stove, a team player who far from feeling like a captain considers himself a ‘sailor’ within the crew delivering each service. On offer here are two interesting tasting menus called Villa Rosario (like the hotel) and Santa Marina (like the beach opposite their location), always bringing to the

In a small village in Llanes, a traditional family business has evolved with the times; the old ‘chigre’ (tavern) that one day was founded by the grandparents of the chef, Ricardo González Sotres, is seen today with two distinct areas: the informal Le Bistró, which maintains the rustic charm and offers a menu of traditional tastes, and El Retiro, a much more gastronomic space for us to discover its tasting menu. What will you find? A modern Asturian cuisine brimming with technique and creativity, respectful with the raw ingredients of the local area and tremendously balanced. Within the tastin

This restaurant, whose main attributes are its typical authenticity and charm, will come as a pleasant surprise in this small Asturian village, where we recommend that you park your car at the bottom of the village and walk up. Behind the attractive terrace at the entrance, popular with locals for a beer or aperitif, is a rustic-contemporary interior where everything has been designed to please guests. Chef Xune Andrade returned to his native area to showcase its natural bounty in his cooking, which is contemporary in style and based around two tasting menus (Paseo por el Monte and Ruta por el

If you’re keen to try a delicious Lebaniego stew, you won’t find many better places than this, at the foot of the Picos de Europa, in the heart of the Liébana valley – a permanently verdant and captivating setting in which to enjoy typical and copious mountain cuisine. This well-run family restaurant inside the delightful Hotel Del Oso boasts a pleasantly rustic dining room where you can enjoy simple dishes that are nonetheless full of flavour and bring back memories of bygone days. The homemade desserts are also well worth a mention!

If you’re keen to find a place in which to “lose yourself” and relax in the purest sense of the word, you won’t find anywhere quite like the Palacio de Rubianes, an authentic 14C Asturian-style property surrounded by verdant meadows and with the impressive summits of the Picos de Europa as a backdrop. Facilities here include attractive guestrooms and impressive market-inspired cooking bearing the signature of Esther and Nacho Manzano. Their cuisine is showcased on an à la carte and on two menus (Tradicional and Narbasu), all of which reveal authentic local flavours and include classic dishes f

Asturian “fabada” stew, squid cooked in its own ink, tripe, pig’s trotter and snout give a strong indication of the culinary focus here. Le Bistró occupies the porch of a property that also plays host to the El Retiro fine-dining restaurant, but with its own charming rustic ambience and identity. Here, award-winning chef Ricardo González Sotres conjures up traditional Asturian cuisine that is fully respectful of both ingredients and flavours, in so doing offering a sincere insight into this region, accompanied by highly delicate textures and a nod to fusion cooking. Don’t miss his braised “pit
