Shopping and fine dining under one roof? Head to the top floor of fashion retailer engelhorn Mode im Quadrat to investigate. A team headed up by Dominik Paul cooks up modern and creative cuisine. With flavours that range from bold and robust to low-key, subtle and highly elegant, the dishes bowl diners over. Made using excellent ingredients, everything is nicely pared down and wonderfully balanced. The carefully devised wine pairings are also impressive – there are alcohol-free alternatives, too. In the evening, you can choose between three set menus: the six-course "Urban Nature", four-course

Hotel, restaurants, event venue – the former Bassermann-Jordan-Weingut operates as all of the above. It is a special world, and the experience begins the moment you step onto the beautiful estate. Historical architecture blends seamlessly with modern interior design, both in Ketschauer Hof hotel and in the fine dining restaurant, which is tucked away in the peaceful courtyard, complete with a lovely terrace. Uncompromising quality underpins everything here. Chef Daniel Schimkowitsch crafts clean, creative cuisine. Bringing to bear his own distinctive style, he skilfully incorporates Japanese i

At Dobler's, a veritable institution in the Quadratestadt, or "City of Squares", chef-owner Eric Schumacher's brand is classic dishes presented with finesse and pleasing simplicity. When you master your craft and have top-notch ingredients in your pantry, there is no need for gimmickry. Fine examples include "white halibut with black salsify ragout, beetroot purée, black radish and beurre blanc with vadouvan" or "pink-roasted leg of venison with parsley root purée, bay bolete mushrooms, pickled cranberries and a spiced jus". Both at lunchtime and in the evening, you can order à la carte or opt

In the centre of Wachenheim, opposite the church, Kirche St Georg, Bettina and Benjamin Peifer present their exciting concept! After welcome drinks and appetisers in Gud Stubb (the former vicarage), you are introduced to their culinary philosophy in the pantry; you then take a seat in the minimalist, urban-style restaurant area, either at the counter with a direct view into the kitchen – a special experience – or at one of the small tables or in a koshitsu (a separate nook). A special fusion of the cuisines of the Palatinate and Japan is served. Think "izakaya- style" pigeon: juicy, grilled pi

n institution with a long tradition and a reputation that extends beyond the region for good reason. Here at Hotel Deidesheimer Hof, the dedication of the Hahn family is plain to see, including when it comes to the restaurant. In this beautiful historical building, the contrast between the old cross vault and the modern table settings and colourful decor is spot on. Prepared using select produce, the dishes can be ordered as a set menu or à la carte. It goes without saying that they have the regional classic Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach) on the menu. "The oldest inn in the Palatinate" has been around since 1160 – as it says on the façade. Given that the hosts are dedicated, the location is charming and the cuisine is excellent, it's no surprise that it's popular with many (regular) guests – and it's best to book ahead. The restaurant is divided into different rooms, which creates a certain intimacy. Historical and modern details have been successfully combined, including eye-catching features such as wonderful old tiled stoves and a brick fountain. Regional cuisine with international influences is served in the form of a lovely, seasonal à
