Creative French · ★ Michelin

André van Alten is a fine example of a chef who continually reinvents himself while remaining grounded in his core principles. The unwavering quality of the ingredients, the expertise with which wild duck is roasted on the bone and the depth of the turbot jus complementing an ultra-fresh cut of the fish all showcase his impressive classical training. We also applaud the chef's eagerness to share his experience with younger generations. His ability to keep a cool head as he leads his team in the open kitchen is remarkable. But the chef does not stop there and keeps innovating. He showcases his

Chef Tommy and maître d' Vera have given their charming premises in the centre of Utrecht a stylish makeover. Soft mood lighting contributes to an intimate feel, understated design has a soothing effect and a large mural enlivens the space. Vera runs the dining room with effortless grace; Tommy presents a passionate tribute to his terroir through his dishes. Vegetables, sourced as locally as possible, play a central role (a vegetarian set menu is also available). This is a chef who cooks with great precision, shows a deft touch in applying fresh acidic notes and skilfully plays with temperatur

Leave Utrecht's bustling city centre behind for a while and let yourself be swept away by Karel 5's medieval charm. Luxury meets authenticity in this historical oasis, where you can admire old paintings and sculptures as you dine beneath crystal chandeliers, and, when the weather is fine, have lunch on the beautiful garden terrace. Leon Mazairac and his team conjure up cuisine that does justice to the setting, for a true fine dining experience. Game from the Veluwe, Belgian endive, saffron from Herentals: Chef Mazairac makes a point of working only with top-quality produce that he sources as l

Admire the grandeur of this fully restored 17C château as you take the road up, walk across the little bridge and immerse yourself in its attractive blend of historical features and contemporary luxury. Heemstede Castle is an exceptional and enchanting location, and in Ollie Schuiling it has a very talented chef at the helm. You can expect a few surprises on the wine list, including some sought-after gems from Europe, as well as a nod to the Netherlands. The wines perfectly complement the intense flavours of the chef's dishes. Exceptionally fresh top-quality produce, sublime sauces and inventi

Pure and honest. These two words encapsulate this vibrant place, though they hardly do it justice. Joyce and Victor's deep respect for the seasons and Dutch produce is truly inspiring. They work closely with their suppliers and encourage chef Josephien Blom to be creative within the framework of their sustainable values. The pig's trotters with a tangy remoulade sauce is a classic of the house, but she also gives potatoes a surprising twist with a seaweed sauce and crispy serrated wrack. Prepare to be amazed!

Tradition, a street food influence, authenticity and purity are the words that best sum up this popular restaurant, which showcases the full array of Indonesian cuisine. The rijsttafel (a medley of dishes with rice – also available in a vegan version) provides an excellent opportunity to discover the chef's talent for seasoning and balancing intense flavours. From the succulence of the lamb, the distinctly nutty flavour of the peanut sauce and the delicate spiciness of the gado gado, you can see that this is a chef who knows how to combine generosity with subtlety. Restaurant De Hoefslag by Mark Minkman
Modern French

Mark Minkman has breathed new life into this renowned establishment. A cosy atmosphere still prevails in the stylish space, with a splendid garden terrace that comes into its own when the sun is out. The chef champions classic cuisine that allows premium ingredients to shine without any fuss. From scallops seared briefly a la plancha with a bold, ketjap-infused beurre blanc, to ultra-fresh cod accompanied by Ibérico ham, dashi and a herb salad: he has a nose for quality and understands the power of a good sauce. With such a tempting menu, making a choice is the hardest part.

Zilt & Zoet's appealing menu with flexible options has secured a Bib Gourmand every year since 2014. Thoughtful flavour combinations and fine produce are always at the fore. The chef is just as deft at preparing Aberdeen Angus tataki with Asian accents as he is at frying fillet of plaice meunière and giving it extra punch with a mousseline espuma. Partly covered, the flower-decked terrace is the best spot in which to soak up the restaurant's convivial atmosphere. And you can purchase a bottle from the wine shop on your way out. A firm favourite, where professionalism and warm hospitality are g
