After 25 years of operation, Chef Guillermo González Beristáin’s flagship remains a standard bearer for Monterrey’s fine dining scene, offering skillful cooking that combines Mexican cuisine with accents from Asia and France. The stylish space offers diners a choice between an ample à la carte offering and a tasting menu that best highlights the kitchen’s talents. Flavorful dishes, characterized by a sense of balance and astute seasoning, range from a sweet tamal of winter squash paired with crème fraîche and caviar, to a dish of crisp-skinned quail with foie gras mousseline, pistachios, and c

The three Rivera-Río brothers (Rodrigo, Daniel, and Patricio) combine their talents here, overseeing the culinary, pastry, and front-of-house efforts for this singular establishment. More than perhaps any other, this restaurant embodies the new face of Norteño cuisine, celebrating local ingredients and traditional dishes with a menu that is simultaneously inventive, playful, and bold. A sense of pride in local traditions and ingredients is apparent throughout their immersive tasting menu, whether it’s a suckling pig paired with a distinctive mole neolonés, or an exceptionally tender, reimagine

This small, bustling breakfast/brunch spot from Chef Chuy Villarreal may have you rubbing elbows with your neighbors but it's just part of the charm at this first-come, first-serve spot. It's worth the wait to snag a seat at the counter and peruse their small but mighty menu. Eggs figure largerly; consider the huevos atropellado de piquin, salsa de chorizo, or with house-made bacon. Or, try the tamal borracho de costilla y pata for a heartier start to the day. Coffee is a must, though iced tea is a worthy competitor.

Tacos Doña Mary La Gritona

Read the menu and be ready to order at this spot named after Doña Mary, affectionately known as "la gritona" or "the yeller" because she gently scolds people who slow down the line. Family-run, this taqueria has been around for over two decades. Order outside, get your tacos, then cross the street and sit inside with plastic chairs and tables.Your first decision will be flour or corn tortillas, but there is no wrong choice since both are made fresh onsite. Toppings include onion, cilantro and your choice of three salsas that range from mild to spicy—don't miss the salsa molcajeteada—and while

As the name indicates, this is a humble establishment, with an under-the-radar vibe that’s a bit at odds with Chef/owner Adrián Herrera’s outsized personal brand. But though it certainly isn’t the sort of place to expect fancy trappings or hoity-toity service, it’s just right for satisfying a hunger for hearty food and good drinks in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Accordingly, the cooking is rustic, celebrating the kind of homey dishes whose charms are irresistible even without elegant plating, from earthy, nutty encacahuatadas to empalmes filled with a supremely tender, juicy stewed goat.

Chef Hugo Guajardo showcases Noreste Mexican cuisine here, with local ingredients bolstering traditional recipes cooked over a live fire. Tortillas are made in-house, so take a seat and have some freshly made tostadas and salsa brought to your table as you peruse the seasonally minded menu. Tacos filled with adobo-marinated and fire-roasted pork belly are a sure thing, especially when accompanied by the spicy red salsa and a kicky piquin chile. Carne zaraza is a dry-brined skirt steak that is enlivened with charred onion atop fresh corn tortillas. The accompanying watercress and cilantro salad

They may be known locally as "tacos del muerto," since they're across the street from a cemetery, but this longstanding, family-owned taqueria has been getting it right for over fifty years. The third generation is now running the show here, where you'll choose between flour or corn tortillas and your filling—seared on the plancha with oil to brown and crisp the tortillas. While there are a few options, don't leave without trying their tender taco de picadillo filled with potato and ground beef; taco de pierna with chopped pork shank stewed with red chile; or the signature taco de cabeza, with

They've opened elsewhere, but this location in Barrio Antiguo is the original. Sit indoors in the dining room with tall ceilings and raised beds with plants, or outside on the patio with a nice view of their parrilla and bar. Come hungry or with a group, as the plates are large and you'll want to enjoy a leisurely al fresco meal with a cocktail in hand. While there's plenty to choose from, don't miss the arrachera tacos, with three large flour tortillas with a cheese crust and topped with chopped arrachera and guacamole. Chicharrón mixto served with guacamole and quesadillas is another hit. Ca
