€€
At this traditional inn you can enjoy both comfortable lodging and excellent food. Anna Lercher and Daniel Leitner are your dedicated hosts. Having met while working in the kitchen at Vienna's Steirereck, they now represent the fourth generation to run this family business. Anna oversees the cordial service, and Daniel focuses on the food, in which craftsmanship and flavour take centre stage. The menu features classics such as Styrian Duroc pork schnitzel and grilled char from the Schwarzenberg fish farm, as well as seasonal dishes like carpaccio of young stag and Baiersdorf roe buck ragout, a

Wörgötter - Fine Dining
Creative, French · ★ Michelin
€€€
Located in the centre of Ligist, this restaurant run by the Wörgötter family has won over diners with its twin dining concepts: "Wirtshaus" ("Traditional Inn") and "Fine Dining". The latter proposes creative, modern cuisine that draws on international influences. At the helm in the kitchen, Florian Wörgötter represents the third generation of the family, and now runs the establishment with his partner Julia Mausser. His reasonably priced five- or seven-course surprise menu features savvy, elaborate combinations that create interesting contrasts and are packed with wonderful flavours. For examp

Schloss Farrach - Das Restaurant
Farm to table, Classic Cuisine

Behind its striking mosaic façade, this 17C castle houses a beautiful restaurant with a cross-vaulted ceiling. There is also a delightful terrace. In the evenings, diners have a choice of two set menus showcasing seasonal and regional specialities; at lunchtime, the options are more limited. Some of the ingredients come from organic farms or the restaurant's own garden. Owner Alexander Stöhr is in charge of the kitchen; his son manages the front-of-house team and expertly recommends wine pairings. Tip: Various cultural events take place on specific dates. This is also a fantastic venue for pri

Trippolt Zum Bären
Regional Cuisine, Mediterranean Cuisine

"From the Alps to the Adriatic" is the guiding theme of the Trippolt family restaurant. You could start your culinary journey with a foam soup of aged Parmesan with fried sage leaves and follow that up with spit-roasted young venison accompanied by creamy ricotta gnudi, shallots and strawberries marinated in balsamic vinegar – such dishes highlight not only the kitchen's dedication to the region but also chef Josef Trippolt's passion for hunting. For dessert, the classic apricot dumplings never fail to delight. Diners can choose between two set menus or order individual courses à la carte from

Located right in the town centre, this well-kept inn has a storied history that stretches back to around 1800. The success of this inviting family-run restaurant now lies in the hands of Florian Wörgötter and his partner Julia Mausser, who represent the third generation. The former uses seasonal produce to rustle up Austrian classics with a judicious modern twist. Dishes such as trout fillet with tender wheat, chicory and fennel, or Mariazell venison ragout with sour cream spaetzle, mushrooms and red cabbage are simply delicious. The "Business Lunch" is a moderately priced set menu served Wed-

Roots Restaurant

Ralph Kollnitzer – a familiar name in the region – cooks up a storm here in the fine dining restaurant of the small Hotel Aldershoff by the Lavant. The space has a modern decor with light wood and pops of green; the service is friendly. A surprise menu is available in a four-, six- or eight-course format. Aromatic dishes made using regional ingredients are testament to the chef's creativity and his ties to his roots in Carinthia: think smoked trout with Grantnschleck (cranberry cream). The evening menu is also served in the café. During the day, breakfast and a simpler lunch menu are up for gr

La Torre
Italian, Mediterranean Cuisine

The keep of the medieval St Veit fortress is a truly remarkable setting. Nestled within the historic walls and surrounded by greenery, the small terrace is a particular highlight. This restaurant is run by husband-and-wife team Rosemarie and Ammar Trabelsi, who create a welcoming atmosphere with a personal touch. The Sicilian presides front-of-house and has charm in his blood. His dapper, old-school style is anything but stuffy. She is in charge of the kitchen and cooks up ambitious Italian and Mediterranean cuisine using select ingredients. Her dishes are pared down to just a few components,
