Árbore da Veira

Creative · ★ Michelin

€€€

Located closed to the emblematic artillery batteries that once protected the estuary, this restaurant on top of Monte de San Pedro will delight guests with its panoramic setting, with tables in the dining room offering views of both the city and the expanse of the ocean. It boasts several rooms for private events, lots of light, large bare tables, innovative tableware, and surprising culinary combinations, including impeccable cream sauces. In his own words, the cuisine of chef Luis Veira, a proud native of the city, “focuses the five senses firmly on the Atlantic”. This is reflected in a cons

€€

This successful, family-run business has had a new lease a life under the baton of chef Aitor Prieto, part of the third generation at the helm of this culinary institution and trained in renowned restaurants such as Culler de Pau (in O Grove). This welcoming eatery, located close to the Playa del Orzán, is hidden behind a large picture window that bathes the contemporary dining room in natural light, and where guests can enjoy attentive and informal service, with owner Alberto Prieto keeping a watchful eye on proceedings. The cooking here is an updated take on traditional cuisine with hints of

Terreo Cocina Casual

€€

A restaurant with a modern feel that everyone is talking about given its aim of creating elaborate yet more informal cuisine based around lighter dishes that still retain incredible flavour. The couple that run it (chef Quique Vázquez mans the stoves while Ana Señarís takes care of everything front of house) like to describe what they offer as “casual” to make their guests feel very much at home, with a focus on delicate sauces, an interesting fusion of raw ingredients (marinated and smoked), plus an extensive array of rice dishes. Half-“raciones” are also an option on the menu here.

Taberna 5 Mares

The cooking at this taberna is fun as well as delicious! And with this in mind, the duo of owner-chefs Iria Espinosa and Luis Veira have strived for what they describe as the offbeat face of gourmet cuisine. This bright space occupying the former café adjoining the Arbore da Veira restaurant reflects the more informal and casual dining option of this award-winning name, which features an à la carte of appetisers and main dishes suitable for all budgets (it also includes a section entitled “landscapes for sharing”), in addition to an affordable tasting menu that showcases several signature dish

Artabria

Traditional Cuisine

€€

A restaurant with a historical name (the “Artabrians” were a Celtic tribe who settled in the area) located close to Riazor beach. From the attractively appointed dining room, the kitchen to the rear is partially visible to guests, who can select from a classic à la carte or the option of a varied menu. Specialities well worth trying include the crunchy dish of scallops with a crab cream, smoked salmon rolls with prawn tartare, creamy Carabineros prawns with rice, plus lamprey in season. It is often full thanks to the support of its loyal clientele.

Pedra Furada

Contemporary

€€

Located a stone’s throw from the Playa del Orzán, Pedra Furada can be viewed as a sibling of the successful Morrofino de Vigo as it shares the same culinary philosophy thanks to its fun, contemporary and meticulous dishes that also place a little more emphasis on top-quality ingredients inspired by the sea (e.g. flame-seared mackerel with cosium and a citrus jus with yellow chilli, and the grilled squid, onion sauce and delicate saffron cream). The à la carte, which is designed for sharing, is complemented by two menus entitled Pedra and Orixe, both served to the whole table.

Bido

Well-prepared dishes, high-quality products and delicate presentation lie at the very heart of this restaurant. Not far from the fish market, this establishment surprises in both substance and form, offering contemporary local cuisine in a designer setting. The menu, with the option of half portions for all dishes, is complemented by two set menus: 'Gastronómico' and 'Degustación' (both with wine pairing options). What to order? We were particularly impressed by the successful combination of flavours in the grilled lamb loin and braised neck, 'Queso do Cebreiro', avocado and pea guacamole.

Eclectic

Creative, Modern Cuisine

€€€

A centrally located restaurant with a difference, given that its interior design resembles that of a private house, with a small entrance hall, an access corridor and a pass-through kitchen overlooking the dining room where various works of contemporary art adorn the walls. One of the restaurant’s key features is its “culinary liberty”, with chefs Paco Chicón and Sergio Musso (the former in the kitchen and the latter front of house) choosing a different theme every year (Galician women, Countess Emilia Pardo Bazán, Origen, Tempus etc). This season has been built around the concept of "Déjà vu"
