Untable

thai · Bib

This cozy, Thai newcomer in Cobble Hill lists a “What the Hell” fried rice on the menu with 12 chili symbols. True to its name, the entrée is ferociously spicy, but this restaurant is so much more than a fiery dare. Entrees are where chef Rachanon Kampimarn shines brightest as he takes core flavors and delivers them with a certain level of flair. The soupless khao soi with beef tossed in a Chiang Mai-style curry is arguably the most successful riff on the menu, followed closely by a very light yet bold green curry that comes paired with a strikingly tender grilled chicken thigh and a bowl of p

Sal Tang's

chinese · Bib

It's classic Cantonese American with a modern twist at Sal Tang's, where everything from the dining room to the kitchen's dishes feels nostalgic, albeit with a refined, modern twist. Red lanterns are suspended from the ceiling, paper mâché dragons and cherry blossom wallpaper line the walls, and dark wood anchors this space that's just right for a weeknight meal. Meanwhile, the kitchen delivers nostalgic favorites and updated takes on beloved Chinese American dishes. Don't even think about skipping the egg roll, with its crispy shell and overstuffed filling. Another can't miss? Wonton soup, wi

Café Mars

This trendy Brooklyn spot from Chef Paul D’Avino is quirky from start to finish, and that's exactly what makes it shine. The contemporary menu is equal parts modern and nostalgic, with an outlandish creativity to boot. It's all intended for sharing, so come with a gang and kick off the festivities with four squares of negroni Jell-O with Castelvetrano olives suspended inside. Garlic knot monkey bread is topped with dollops of Parmesan butter and before tucking into a plate of pasta, consider the muffaletta dim sum. You've likely never had anything like it before, where fried sesame balls are t

Saga

Contemporary · ★★ Michelin

$$$$

Set in a landmark skyscraper that towers over the city, Saga is a stunner. An aperitif from the terrace is a striking start before settling into one of several intimate rooms fit with peach and emerald velvet, green marble tables and carved stone accents. An aura of class and comfort takes hold in preparation for a cuisine that is inspired and delightful, as in Hokkaido scallop arranged with shaved fennel and vadouvan butter sauce; or Australian lamb dressed with a spiced jus and frothed herb sauce. To finish, a lovely Moroccan tea service, paying homage to the late Chef James Kent, is complet

Haenyeo

korean · Bib

This is the kind of spot that serves food so memorable you'll find yourself craving the same meal well after your visit. The kitchen is known for surprising diners at every twist and turn, as evidenced by the tteokbokki—spicy rice cake topped with Oaxacan cheese and chorizo. Start your meal with yache pajun, a savory and crisp pancake filled with vegetables. Not to be missed is the daegu jorim, cod fish braised in a luscious, sweet soy sauce served with tender daikon radish and jammy onions. Beat the heat with the mak-gutsu, chilled and icy soba noodles served with chili vinaigrette, then wind

Crown Shy

Contemporary, American · ★ Michelin

$$$

Crown Shy occupies a stunning setting in the landmark Art Deco tower, 70 Pine Street. The striking lobby leads to a modern dining room with soaring ceilings, marble floors, and expansive windows. It’s an undeniable feast for the senses; the energy made all the more palpable thanks to a long bar and an upbeat playlist. The kitchen, meanwhile, moves like clockwork with an approachably creative style. Gruyère fritters are a classic before seasonal smashes like tomatoes and peaches in a citrus vinaigrette with anchovy pieces and crushed peanuts and savory pleasures like roasted short rib with cous

Miss Ada

mediterranean · Bib

Many stylish Middle Eastern restaurants have opened in recent years, but few have come close to putting a dent in the crowds that rush to Miss Ada nightly. This Fort Greene charmer features a cozy dining room, a darling backyard patio and garden, and a keen menu packed with dips, meats, and veggies. Whipped ricotta with brown butter, sage, and honey is a sweet staple, as is the fantastic hummus topped with tender lamb shawarma. Sharing is the name of the game here, from the vibrant market salads to charred skewers like kofta with pine nut, short rib with cabbage, and halloumi with green tahini

The talented Sam Lawrence is sure to impress diners at this welcoming restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. The warm, amber-toned dining room possesses the ease and comfort of a bistro, while the kitchen cooks with noteworthy levels of drive and ambition. The tight menu is sparse on words and doesn’t fit neatly into the box of any one cuisine but know that inspiration and originality are in proper supply. Does cured tuna with black trumpet mushrooms and dates work? It sure does. The savory tart filled with a lush Comté custard dressed with creamy morels is a delight. Desserts like the chocolat
