Creative, Regional Cuisine · ★ Michelin

€€€€

This place has a real ace up its sleeve: its superb lakeside location on the peninsula! The large windows of this stylish restaurant afford spectacular views, and the terrace is a real highlight. But the creative cuisine, served as a five- to seven-course set menu, is also worthy of your undivided attention. Chef Lukas Nagl brings his own signature to a proudly regional approach, incorporating fermented notes and Japanese influences – without the need for ingredients from further afield. Star billing goes to fish from the lakes of Salzkammergut, such as gently torched perch cooked to perfectio

Geiger Alm

Creative, Seasonal Cuisine · ★ Michelin

€€€€

This place is the epitome of cosy rusticity! Housed in a quaint old timber building, the restaurant has a delightful Alpine-style interior and serves flavoursome dishes that draw on regional culinary tradition and seasonal produce. It's clear that your hosts are passionate about what they do. In the kitchen, Dominik Utassy prepares a four- to eight-course set menu (vegetarian version available), using carefully selected ingredients. Eva-Maria Utassy expertly manages the service with unaffected charm, offering astute wine recommendations. Given the limited number of seats, you would be wise to

Zum Goldenen Hirschen - Hirschenstube

Contemporary, Traditional Cuisine

€€€

Dating back to 1624, this venerable old building in the centre of Gmunden used to be an inn and is now a boutique hotel and restaurant. Chef Christoph Parzer expertly transforms fresh ingredients into flavoursome dishes that range from regional specialities to modern international cuisine. This interesting mix is presented in the form of an appealing à la carte selection including steaks and Alpine sushi, and the "AURUM" fine dining menu served in the evening. The interior impresses with its attractive blend of traditional elements – such as a tiled oven, a timber ceiling and brick vaulting –

Stefan Haas Fine Dine

Creative, Seasonal Cuisine

€€€

Run by Stefan Haas, this restaurant offers a totally immersive experience. The open kitchen allows you to witness firsthand how the chef-patron transforms seasonal ingredients into flavoursome dishes with his own creative touch. There is no menu in the traditional sense: you are given small cards with sketches and explanations of the dishes – you then compile your own meal from these options. Modern and minimalist in style, the dining space has only a limited number of tables. Service is friendly and adept – your host and sommelier Juliane Haas brings a warm, personal touch.

€€

An establishment that is a delight in every respect! The fantastic lakeside location by Attersee alone makes a visit worthwhile, as does the pleasingly relaxed atmosphere, which combines rural charm with more modern features, as well as the beautiful terrace. And then there's the cuisine, which has classic Austrian roots. The dishes that grace the menu are tasty and prepared without much ado - "Wiener schnitzel made from saddle of veal" or half a roast chicken; the odd Mediterranean influence also makes its presence felt. Many of the wines on the 500-plus list are from Austria. The Hotel Aichi

Austrian, International

€€€

This idyllic lakeside house has been in existence since 1447. With their wood panelling and tiled stove, its rooms have a cosy atmosphere that draws on the region. The cuisine is Austrian-influenced, but also has an international lilt. There is a choice of à la carte dishes or you can opt for the "Genuss-Menü" (set menu), or indeed pick and choose individual courses from the latter. The veal fillet and braised veal cheek, for example, is really delicious. On Mondays, a surprise menu comprising three or five courses is served. The restaurant is located in Hotel Lexenhof, which offers charming,

Wassermann

Modern Cuisine

€€€

This small fine dining restaurant is in the MONDI Hotel, which boasts a picturesque hillside location overlooking the lake Gundlsee – with such a fantastic backdrop, the terrace is a real highlight! But eating inside is just as appealing, on account of the upscale modern ambience bursting with regional charm. The à la carte menu is not too extensive but constitutes a judicious selection, from which you can also create a three- to five-course set menu. The emphasis is on seasonal ingredients from the surrounding area, such as Ausseerland trout, Salzkammergut catfish and Gundlsee lamb. Vegetaria
