It is well worth making the journey from Silian up to this place steeped in over 300 years of tradition – perched at an altitude of around 1 400m, it promises a wealth of picturesque views. Not only do the three Villgrater farmhouses and the ‘Genussgarten’ form a beautiful, authentic sight, but you can also feel the connection with nature, the region and the people. Lots of local wood, plenty of ornaments, and modern touches here and there create a rustic cosiness in the various dining areas. Carola and Josef Mühlmann run the hotel together and are also both to be found working in the kitchen.

You can tell that an experienced chef is at work here! Ernst Moser serves up an appealing range of sophisticated dishes, including pizza and pasta, which can be ordered as a set menu or à la carte. Diners choose from options such as vitello forello, pigeon royale, glazed belly of Alpine pork, and spaghetti "Ernesto". Plus there is a well-curated wine list and friendly, attentive service. The restaurant, which adjoins a tennis centre, is not only popular with locals and regulars, so don't forget to make a reservation. You can also make the most of the small terrace.

An establishment run with dedication by the Obwexer family in a building steeped in history. Old paintings, wood panelling and a tiled stove lend plenty of charm and a certain elegance to the refined, rustic-style decor of this restaurant. Diners take their seats at beautifully laid tables to enjoy pleasingly informal service that includes reliable wine recommendations courtesy of owner Michael Obwexer – you will discover his enthusiasm for Austrian, Italian and French wine estates. In the kitchen, Max van Triel is the man behind flavourful dishes such as pan-fried fillet of turbot, with spina

Chef's Table by Gesser

Creative

A wonderful family-run restaurant, now with two dedicated brothers from the next generation at the helm. Clemens Gesser is in charge of the kitchen and serves up ambitious regional cuisine made exclusively with ingredients sourced from the surrounding area. A surprise menu is the sole proposal – diners can choose to have between four and seven courses. Meticulously crafted dishes such as smoked salmon trout tartare with buttermilk and herb oil, or flavoursome pumpkin ravioli with milk foam showcase the chef's skill. Up to eight diners share one large table positioned right next to the kitchen
